Hmmmm I hate to say it but I think you just got lucky !!!
India is a quagmire for the Japanese.
Unless you take it quickly you are committing a large proportion of your available ground forces to a place where the allies can trade space for time.
You would find yourself with most of you availabe infantry and armour stuck fighting there rather than securing resource or picket lines in SOPAC/ DEI.
The RN has been bloodied but it looks like the US CV force is intact. I think India unless you are confident you could have won before September / October 42 would have been a step to far...
My plan was to destroy his army in Burma, not in India. Was planned a landing at Chandupur but was not necessary. When i landed at Rangoon with 2500 AP there were still 100,000 allied troops stuck between Muleim and Reaghen. With their retreats line cut by my paras that took Pagan , Lashio and another base near Mandalay, i could have destroyed the Half of the British/indian forces before reaching Mandalay in feb 42. Then averything could have been possible i guess.
Yes but he had spotted you and was attempting to get out of the sack but was stopped by a bug (unless I misunderstood earlier in the thread)
So while I agree 150,000 allied troops stuck in Burma is bad for a defence of India and you may have gotten ashore to cause mayhem he would have started to shift forces by trails (slow) or by Air. Lets say you landed 1st April at Chandpur he probably could not stop you in the South but if he has been at all diligent over fort building he could slow you down by fighting a withdrawal back towards Karachi shortning his lines all the time getting stronger while you get weaker until you hit the Delhi Ahmabad line where it really is Indian Army stand or die time.
And in Burma you wouldnt have put them in the sack as he can retreat towards mandalay while fighting a retreat to slow you down and used a fraction of his force to clear out the retreat lines from Mandalay.
One question thats quite important is where is his armour he has 3 very powerfull Armoured Brigades Avaialale are any of them in Burma ?
If not then assuming he deploys 1 near Madras and 1 near Calcutta with the third say at Asanol as theatre reserve you have a problem moving quickly
Hmmm on the other hand if that 150,000 troops is all Commonwealth i.e. no Chinese and he has committed all the armour to Burma he may have completely emptied India in which case he is toast.... even if you dont make them surrender at Mandalay

Interesting experiment pity we wont see it now
stronger while you get weaker until you hit the Delhi Ahmabad line where it really is Indian Army stand or die time.
No, you did not Misunderstood mate! The only problem is that it was not a bug tha prevented him to retreat towards mandalay but just a unknown ( at least by both of us) that force a sieged unit to design as destination hex of his movement an hex which is not a base hex, held by your forces. If we had understood a bit earlier this was not a bug, he would have been destroyed in Burma.
I'm quite sure only the 2nd UK division( if it was already arrived) was at his disposal in India. All his 3 armoured brigades were at Reaghen( more than 800 tanks were spotted by my accurate recon ) and not less than 5 heavy arty units, plus any other inf. unit avalable. The 18th UK div , i'm quite sure was( and still is) at Akyab. If i would have closed the envelope around these troops between Reaghen,Mouleim and Pagan, the road to Mandalay would have been empty and , being stuck at Akyab the 18th div would not have been able to do anything against my landings at Chandupur. I did not want to go any further than Dacca. Just close this big envelope and starve his men, and then destroy them. While my naval-air forces would have covered the troops while they were re-deploying.
With only one division left and the RN out of action i could have been able to withdraw everything but 2 divisions and 2 eng.regiments from Burma/india area and dig in, concentrating of Java,Timor and maybe Oz.
I've studied very well the lessons from Pzg vs. Wolby. My plan was to take advantage of his overcommitting in Burma, close a big defensive pocket and build a defensive line shorter than the Burma one , risking the minimum in terms of naval assets, troops and suplies.
Now, with Mandalay become a fortress and with Diamond-Chandupur area full of enemy bombers, life both for my troops and for my assets in burma will begin to become terrible and dangerous. In few months he will bomb my oil fields in Rangoon...
At this stage of the war, my hope is to be able to push the chinese back , closing the burma road and take siege of Mandalay, using all the heavy bombers at my disposal. probably the conquest of Mandalay is still possibile, but it's gonna be damned bloody for japanese forces
If he has committed so much force to Burma and has basically nothing in India you should take your lumps from the RAF and take India he wont be able to stop you just land forces on a wide front the danger of getting defeated in detail will not exist as he has not got enough force to stop landing in more than one place.
Land forces at Madras Diamond Harbour Chandpur and the base in between so four landings each one say a Division backed by a Mixed Brigade and an armoured regt and a few base forces and engineers.
If he is really that weak he wont be able to stop you also If he has committed that many troops to Burma I would bet his fort building in India has been weak as he has few engineers available
then just reinforce the one or two that succeed.
he has really committed all the allied armour to Burma......I would love to hear why he did that thats kind of aggressive...
Well, i know...i've thought about it for one week. i'm a kind of defensive japanese player, so i always try to save my assets, 'cause the ghost of the " WINTER IS COMING" for japan is always there.
if i would have decided to do what you say i had to do in the right way: so to say invest my main effort in a deep penetration in India, with the aim of conquering it all. I gotta say that India is not on my wish list. I still have Java and the DEI-SRA to conquer and i have to fortify and expand my defensive perimeter in the Solomons and Gilbers.
At the end i decided to let 4 divisions and 2 mix bde in Burma, with 2 Eng regiments and some aviation supports and concentrate myself on my primary mid-term goal: Java
Probably this strategy won't lead me to victory, but i'm quite sure that will save my naval assets for a while.
Oh, remember that if i had managed to close the Burma pocket and eliminated 150,000 more allied troops i think that there would have been no need to go for india( in terms of VPs): I'm already 15,000 vs 4000. With more 150,000 troops in the bag plus all those ABDA forces trapped in Java, without doing any seriuous mistakes, i could have arrived to1943 with a solid 4: 1 score.
But that's life. Now I gotta concentrate and fight hard
BTW i think he understimated my chances of obtaining a quick victory in Singapore. He probably thought he could have slowed down me and gained time to strongly fortify Rangoon area. That's probably why he committted so much in Burma. Quite sure he got scared enough and wont do this mistake again in other matches[:D]
another day has passed, and with the sunset it comes the dark.Every night things over Rangoon are getting worse. Every day i lose much more planes than he does.Every night my airfields got pounded without my guys being able to shoot down one of those nasty british bombers. I have to find a key for this, untill i will be able to get some of my night fighters....but it's a long long way for it.
The entire army that liberated Luzon is now loaded up on ships. In few more days i'll be able to launch the final attack over Java. Then will have to find a plan for Timor and for securing the southern perimeter.
In 3 days KB1 will sail eastwards towards Bismarks. I want to try a last expansion here towards Nanomea Atoll. Meanwhile Gili gili and Lae should become operative with fighters and Mavis. Tarawa reached level 4 AF, which means that now Canton Island and the supply routes that pass thorugh here are in danger. This should be seen as a problem by the allies and i really hope he's gonna try something here. I'm ready to give him a warm welcome[:D]

Here we go. Another night raid and another bad day for my guys at Rangoon. Those Raf bombers seem unstoppable. I've tried different mix of planes and altitudes, but nothing seems to work against them. Today 10 planes were destroyed on the ground and he took only 1 op.loss....I'm getting the same feeling that probably Germans had against night bombing during 43-44....impotence![:(]
Considerig that i'm using 2 daitais of zeros and 2 sentais of oscars ( both between 75 and 80 exp) i cannot really figure out what else i could do.
The first raid over Canton Island deployed a 250kg bomb on an AK. Nothing serious, but now he will be forced to deploy some more fighters here if he wants to save his cargos, and more fighters here means less fighters at PM[:D]
My betties went twice for Madras. Now i'm sure he covered the whole bay of bangals with planes. Not much i can do here...no more[:(]

ops....it a long time since i do not get this result in a island invasion...
Another night of passion over Rangoon. What really ashtonish me is that he takes very few operational losses, flying so low( 5,000 ft) at night. Tonight two zeros have been destroyed during air2air combat by a IL-4c. I had to move back to Tavoy a group of Betties because it has remained with 23 pilots but only 10 planes-_-''[:@]
Considering that i cannot do anything defending, i've ordered for tomorrow a night bombing raid over Chandupur. My zeros will sweep the place first, then my bombers will come in between 7,000 and 9,000 ft. let's see if it's just him that can do these things...

Well, i do not have the combat report( lost it while playing another pbem match).
BTW,More planes lost in this silly night war at Rangoon. Ambonia is becomming the new training camp for the B.17s
The big Convoy i spotted yesterday moving towards PM revealed to be nothing more than a Surface TF, with 15 ships, some of which were CL and the rest DM and DDs. 2 of my subs intercepted it but both of them got sunk during nightime, bringing with them a DD with two fish in it. The TF is moving very fast towards Cairns now. I dunno if it reached PM, layed mines and got away at Full speed. It can be,or if , after being spotted, he decided it was better not to risk against my 150 bombers at Rabaul.
More garrison units are moving towards the south pacific. Tulagi is going to be garrisoned, as Baker Island, in few more days. Lae,Buna and Gili are now operative air bases for my recon planes.
the battle for Mandalay is ready to start, but if i want to be ready to fight for it, i need to solve the night bombing problem.....
Any tips?

Unfortunatly not. Same problem here with my opponent. He is pounding Bankok with Liberators and B-17 and i can't do nothing. Only good thing if you put your O II and Zeros on night CAP is there will be less ac casaulties on the ground[8|].
My opponent told me that his level bombers are on the egde of their range (not sure if they fly at extended range) and even i have 3 AA regiments or so, usually just one evil enemy bomber is damaged. Phew! Also, he told me that after long range mission their fatigue is about 10! (maybe they sleep during flight:).
I can not strike back for several reasons.
1. My IJA bombers have shorter range - i can not reach AF
2. If the enemy AF is in the range, bombload of my Sally's is patethic so results are...errr.. uncomparable with allied bombing
3. I can not sacrify my valuable LBA (Bettys, Nells) for night AF bombing...
Don't bother with transfering Tojo's. I have them on night CAP but chinese Il-4 (?) bombing without any problems. This happens in China and it is intersting that night fight screen doesn't "freeze" like in Burma so i can see what happens
Hi, Fighters without radar are pretty hopeless at night. Allied fighters as well.
What makes a fighter a night fighter is radar. Helps if the base (or CV) also has radar.
I'm not retreating, I'm attacking in a different direction!

Thanks for answering mate.
My opponent doeasn't give me that kind of intelligence, but i guess he's having exactly the same results as your opponent. Assuming that they worked on the Night-bombing when they released v.1.4, i guess what did they change. It's incredible that allied bombers, when they fly and bomb at night, do get so few op. losses and so low fatugue levels even when flying at 5,000 fts. On the contrary, my high exp. LRbombers flying at 7,000 ft thet do not get any hits at night and they suffer really high op. losses....[:-]
Hi, In one of my PBEM it is late Feb and Allies have lost close to 60 B-17 (more B-17 have been lost then A6M2)
Of course most of the A6M2 lost have been destroyed on the ground by B-17 bombs
I'm not retreating, I'm attacking in a different direction!

Hi, i understand what you mean and i agree with you. What is strange is that Martins,Hudsons and chinese IL4s obtain so good results, without seing their numbers go down, night after night, for operational losses, morale/fatigue or AA losses...they fly very very low( 5,000 fts)...Do you think that's normal? more than 2 weeks of night attack without any stop should have emptied at least the Martin pool.....
Hi, Well it depends of course on many things.
In my games I hope the enemy wonders how I can bomb night after night. (but I have 2 or more groups and every night I change them.)
At low altitude with AA in the hex you'd think you'd do some damage to the attacking bombers.
Their morale is a product of how well they are doing, their leader and HQ.
And of course a group can keep flying with the pool empty. I don't use my pools for front line groups.
(The enemy never knows how much impact he has on my front line units because I keep them close to full strength with trained replacements.)
You have to watch the animation to see how many actual groups are attacking.
Early on I can send 36 Sally from 1 group. Later I need 2 groups to send 36 but if the enemy is not paying attention all he sees is there are still 36 Sally in the attack.
I'm not retreating, I'm attacking in a different direction!
yes, ok, i got it. But as my AARs say every night there are almost 15/20 martins flying from Chadupur to Rangoon ( 11 hexes) which is quite a long range i guess. 5,000 fts with 2 Heavy AA units waiting for them, should be quite a dangerous travel for them, but it's not. I always whatch the animations. My oscars got pierced in the air by the defensive fire, exactly as Zeros( i've lost 2 zeros two night ago in a dogfight with a IL4). What really seems too strange to me it is not the fact that my fighters cannot do anything at night. That's pretty understandable. What's not is the fact that their losses are always too light( max 1 op. losses for every night sortie). I'm not complaining, do not misunderstand me, i'm just saying that i find these results quite strange. Don't you?
