Supply

Post by Atlantikwall »

1.) It is said, that supply is needed to move units. Let`s assume that a unit has supply, but does not want to move. Will it consume ("eat") supply anyway (i.e. supply is lost) or does it (or the country it is in) "store" supply propaply to a certain maximium?

2.) Is there a kind of "storehouse" where you could bring (more) supply to prior to an attack. Let`s say, GER wants to attack SU within the next few rounds. Wouldn`t it be reasonnanable to stock supplies at the eastern front (i.e. bring supply there untill eventually rail will be destroyed)?

3.) Can units "store" supply (if yes, how much)? I ask that because without the possiblility of "storage", units would never ever be able to move futher than one country from the "last" country with railroad access.

4.) In the "simple" supply mode do you also have to bring ressources to a factory or are they (as supply) magically transfered to factories? If not, do you also have to establish a "unbroken chain of transports" or do you ship supply (load on transports and move them) in simple suply mode?

No it won't use any if it doesn't move or attack.

Yes, using advanced supply you must move supplies on the map. It is very important to stockpile supplies for planned major operations since you have limited rail and transport capacity to move combat units and supplies long distances.

3.) Can units "store" supply (if yes, how much)? I ask that because without the possiblility of "storage", units would never ever be able to move futher than one country from the "last" country with railroad access.

Supplies are units that move around, and you can keep as many in an area as you want (of course if the area is captured, you lose the supply.

4.) In the "simple" supply mode do you also have to bring ressources to a factory or are they (as supply) magically transfered to factories? If not, do you also have to establish a "unbroken chain of transports" or do you ship supply (load on transports and move them) in simple suply mode?

With simple supply, supply is in a pool and available for all units to use, even those isolated. That's why it's called simple supply and why we have an advanced supply rule. Resources are a different issue as they are different from supplies. They always must have a land or transport link to the factories that are going to use them.

Is there a minimum amount of supply that can move though a country even without railroad (or a demaged one)? It imho has to be, because otherwise, attacking units could never move forward as infrastructure is always distroyed in newly captured territories and every unit in there would be in a "trap" (could not move back without supply)?

You can always move supply from one territory to an adjoining territory, even without rail (much as you can always move one unit to an adjoining territory as long as there is supply for that unit to consume).

This is important for the Soviets, who will be very short on supply through most of the game (especially if Oleg is playing your WA partner [:-]). You won't have enough supply to upgrade everything as you retake territory, so you need to carefully move supply and units to keep the offensives going west. Also very important for the German drive on Egypt, as you have no rail in that area.

You said that "supply" is also a unit. And do you need supply to move a supply unit in an adjacent territory? If yes, it`s kind of supply "eats" itself[:D]!
