Second World War

Matrix Games and Simulations Canada combine and completely remake two classic NATO vs. Warsaw Pact wargames into a new classic. Based on the original wargames “Main Battle Tank: North Germany” and “Main Battle Tank: Central Germany”, Flashpoint Germany is a new grand tactical wargame of modern combat. Every aspect of modern grand tactical warfare is included, from advanced armor, air and helicopters to chemical and tactical nuclear weapons. Step into the most dangerous war.. . that never was.

Second World War

Post by MikeBrough »

This is my first post to these forums.... so be gentle with me!

Once dismounted infantry are added, I believe this system would be great for re-creating World War 2 battles. It would need a bit of amendment to slow the operational pace down a bit, and to take the reduced weapons lethality into account but I think it could be done.

Can anyone else add to the list of changes that would be needed?

I've been racking my brains to think of an existing WW2 game at the same grand-tactical level but I can't.

Getting back to the game as it is, I'd like to see a bit of 'personality' added to the different HQs and sub-units. At the moment, the units are all treated as autonoma and every unit reacts to the same stimuli in the same way. What about a bit of differentiation between them? Bravery, initiative, intelligence?

Any thoughts?

Well, every unit is rated for Training, Morale and Fatigue, in addition to Ammo. It basically covers most of what you are asking: there's a difference between a first rate British Challenger squadron, and a second line Soviet unit, equipped with T-62s, low on morale and ammo, fatigued and badly trained.

Agreed, iberian. I should have read the manual a bit more closely.

However, 2 Challenger units with the same training and subjected to the same game events will end up at the same morale and fatigue levels. In the game, it wouldn't matter to me as the commander whether I sent in platoon A or platoon B. IRL, it would.

Nit-picking, I know. It's a good game and I'm only just getting to grips with it.
