Complexity Level

Matrix Games and Simulations Canada combine and completely remake two classic NATO vs. Warsaw Pact wargames into a new classic. Based on the original wargames “Main Battle Tank: North Germany” and “Main Battle Tank: Central Germany”, Flashpoint Germany is a new grand tactical wargame of modern combat. Every aspect of modern grand tactical warfare is included, from advanced armor, air and helicopters to chemical and tactical nuclear weapons. Step into the most dangerous war.. . that never was.

Complexity Level

Post by Hanal »

I'm not trying to stir a debate on my complexity ratings for the games listed below, I would just like to see where you would fit Flashpoint Germany within this list....On a scale of 1 (easy) to 10 (difficult):

War in the Pacific - 10
Uncommon Valor - 8
Battles in Normandy - 8
Steel Panthers - 6
Campaigns on the Danube - 5
Gates of Troy - 2

Again, some of you may believe I rated a game too high or low, but just using the above as a guide, where would you slot FlashPoint?

Thanks

4 ish.

Sticking GoT in with a 2 messes it up a bit... I know what you mean, but its a strategy game not a wargame and you can't really compare it. It's a pity you havn't played TS:Alexander which would make more sense as a comparison - I'd put that in as a "3".

Falcon your ratings are pretty accurate. And Hertston's too. I haven't played Gates of Troy but FPG is definitely less complex than any other game on your list, so - 4.

I'd rate World at War (beta) - 6. HTTR - 6 as well.

Having played the games above, I would agree with your ratings.

I would put Flashpoint Germany at a 4 or 5.

It is easy to get into, but there is a lot to learn to play it well.

Just my 2 cents.

I feel BiN and Korsun Pocket should be well below UV.

BiN/KP should be a 6 spwaw a 5.

I'd recommend a newbie KP and BiN they arent complicated games to play.

A 5/6 to play but...an 8 to win[;)]. FPG? 4's about right IMO.

This sums it up pretty good. With FGP we alsowanted to create an "entry level" game for people just starting or looking to get into wargaming. You can play FPG on a pretty "easy level" but if you turn on higher ESM, fog of war and limited staff rule, then you have a lot of things to do and think about.

There´s a lot to discover.

In a good game, there is no contradiction. TS:A is even easier to learn to play, but winning, even relatively early, is a different matter altogether.

That said, certain types of game demand more complexity from the word go, as is seen by the "scores" given above.

That is a true statement. I have Tin Soldiers Alexander. The interface takes about 10 minutes to learn, but winning a scenario takes practice.

Flashpoint Germany is addictive. "Just one more turn" is the order of the day. To me the interface is seamless, and it is easy to give orders to your units.

Congratulations to everyone involved in creating this game. Well Done!

I would agree with this comment more than anything. BTW - FPG is also a game that can played in a short time. There's nothing better than instant gratification.
