Does this game really need one? What are your concerns?

Almost any other game here and I would be standing right beside you.

But anyone who has played Axis & Allies should at least have a general feel for whether or not they would like this game. This game may differ in many many ways, but ultimately I still believe if you hate Axis & Allies for any reason other than it being a bit too simple, then you probably won't like this game. And if you even marginally like A&A then you will LOVE this game because it will be that and a WHOLE lot more.

My main concern with wanting demoes is to see if the overall style of play, method of abstraction etc fits me. The secondary purpose would be to get a feel for the interface, should it perhaps be poor.

I just don't think the interface is going to pose any problems here.

I've seen the graphics in screenshots, they are MORE than I or anyone should require.

The feature list and AAR's tell much more.

The ONLY reason I'd like to see a demo of this game is so that I have something to play for a week or two until I can order the digital download WITH game box version.

However, I've heard in the past that this title might show up on store shelves. And be more of a mass market game then many previous Matrix titles. I think a demo could only help that, and not hurt it.

It shouldn't have the same problems that a demo of WITP would have (ie. it would be VERY playable by someone who hasn't read the manual and isn't willing to give the demo much time beyond an hour or two.) The Demo Player could certainly form an accurate opinion and make a decision on the purchase within that time period.

If a Demo needs a day or two of a players time in order to get them to buy it, then its a bad idea to make one in the first place (ie. There should never be a WITP demo).

We've discussed the possibility of a demo with Matrix but there is no firm plan one way or the other. Our focus right now is to finish the game this month.

This game will be in US stores, and I hope Matrix will have decent distribution in Europe that will get it into stores there as well. Sometime this quarter you will see it in major software stores.
All understanding comes after the fact.

Well, truthfully I'm not sure if this will be my type of game or not. I have never played Axis and Allies, which is highly unfortunate as it has always seemed like such a great game (the boardgame version).

I did read the IGN preview for the game and they seemed to really enjoy it. I have also looked over the game website and it seems to have a lot of good features. I like the graphical style and the interface looks just fine to me. I have read some of the AARs that have been so generously provided, however I have a slightly hard time following them in some ways, as I don't really know what units are selected.

I also tried the Hearts of Iron 2 demo and was completely lost, which made me decide not to buy that one. I've heard the full game is much, much better, but I did feel like it would be too complex overall. World at War seems like it might be more simplified and enjoyable.

In the end, I am hesitant to part with $40 of my money on a game I may end up not enjoying. A demo would help me decide at the very least. As long as it was a good demo. [;)]

I do have another question about the full version of the game, for the retail version what type of manual will it come with? Will it be very large and extensive, or will it be just the very basics?

Serian,

to help you out, I can safely say that the complexity of WaW is somewhere on the same level as SC although with a different focus and game engine. This genre is excellent for solitaire play as it is not to complex for a decent AI. It goes without saying that these really hit their stride with PBEM competition, so with much adieu aside, get over to battlefront and download the SC demo. If you like it, you will likely be entertained by WaW.

Ding. You are interested in Grand Strategy Games already since you took a look at HOI2.
Ding. HOI2 Seemed WAY too complex to you.

All I see is two reasons to buy GGWaW. [:D]

Thank you for the recommendation SeaMonkey, I did try out Strategic Command and thought it was pretty good. I didn't do very well, but I could see it being fun once I understood what was going on.

GGWaW is a definite possibility for me now. There are a lot of good games coming out at the same time though.

I do have a question about the campaign however. If I played with the normal settings there are approximately 24 turns to a full game, however I have heard that you can turn this option off. Does this mean it would be possible to attempt to completely take over the world as one of the main forces in the game?
