Where it start this decrypting and where does it ends ?

This really isn't the issue. Keep the encryption, you don't need to decrypt the world.
You can do this without compromising the security. Please don't mix the two items as
one.

when you are able to decypt a part of the whole - then you can decrypt the whole. there is no mixture - its one peace.

Not if the data dump comes from the game itself ! You get only what you would get anyways as the Allied OR the Japanese. Not both. Purely a function of how it is implemented. This isn't an issue of "Can't do it without violating securty".

I believe that is exactly what I said ... to have this requires it to come from within the game, not as an external decode of the save.

Right - the game would decode it - the utility could then collect the decodes and use them.

To an extent, the game already has a data write to file feature. It does this at end of turn, then encrypts it. Still don't see the effort here other than creating the write to file (for a given side) task. Don't get me wrong, I'm not minimizing the task, but merely pointing out alot of the structure already exists.

I'm still curious to your comment Frag that the save game file doesn't contain the software flags to indicated who has what. Its the only place I can see to put it.

My offer for a beer still stands if you ever get down my way.[;)]

You are thinking about it in reverse.

The save game is *just* data. The game engine interprets that data and decides what is shown to you.

Having access to the save game would result in you not being bound by the rules imposed by the game engine.

This would be unrestricted access to 100% of the data.

If I told you that if you looked in the save file and searched for the string "Enterprise" and looked at the next two numbers past it it would tell you the location, how long do you think it would be before Japan sunk the Enterprise? Thats the problem with the save file. (just an example, don't waste your time trying [:'(])

The game engine on the other hand knows that you are Japan therefore it is not going to show the Enterprise to you.

Make sense?

Dear Ron,
Just a question not a jibe or dig!

Question:
"Do you ever not complain in a post?"

Check the previous post in the thread.[:D] Sans bitching.[8D] Yeah, I come across as a complainer but there is lot's to complain about and lots to like. Seeing as I don't play kissy face and say I love you as often as I use the phrase "f--k off", the compliments I have for the game don't get repeated as the reason for the compliment is already in the game. I push the concept of the tired horse get's a rest to the tired horse is simply shot.[:)] Can be annoying to some. Unfortunately, I use the forum to vent real life crap sometimes (like nic fits!)

Do I need to point you to the thread where I said send me your turn #1 ... I just don't have the time to play as Japan right now, Kid donating more work to me didn't help the situation. [:D]

bah.....i'm already playing as Japan and need an Allied game. I was looking forward to your showing me the moves you said you had as Japan.

Point taken about accessing the game state data directly: I also think that it's not a good idea. However, I DO think it's a very good idea to allow the player read-only access to the game state data for HIS side via an export facility. It may even be quicker for Mike Wood to write such a simple export only facility that to try to find ways to shoehorn everyone's UI feature request into the current system. Such an export option would allow the community to find ways to display the data they want, in any way they want.

Bodhi,

You are exactly right and wholeheartedly agree. It's the export utility that needs to be created. Nothing more. Once the particular side (Japanese or Allied) is dumped out to a csv file format, the user community will take it from there.

And Frag, I guess what your telling me is the the save game file contains data only, and no software flags (such as the like to indicate ownership). So for example, the game file would have the data that says Miri has 10,432 resources, with another piece of data that says the following IJA LCU's are located at Miri. This gets read into the game code and the code puts 2 and 2 together and says to only show the base info to the Japanese. True ?
