Anybody else fixing TO&Es & production?

Post by Vinnie O »

I have been fiddling with the old WIR for years, mostly correcting the equipment assigned to the German units and sorting out factories and production rates.

Is anyone else into this? For example, Alfred Price has published the complete Luftwaffe OrdBat for June 1941 with numbers for serviceable and unserviceable aircraft. Dr. Niehorster gives a complete list of all AFVs assigned to mobile units, by model. Etc., etc.

Very good information on the Russians is now available from several sources.

I am therefore very surprised in the gross errors remaining in the 1941 scenario.

Anyone wanna trade notes?

Anyone want a copy of my corrected 1941 scenario when I get it finished?

I would love to see what you come up with. I am working on changing the starting strengths for the AFVs for Matrix, and have information from the Niehorster site, along with a few others. However, rather than sending out a partially changed scenario strength-wise, the last one just had the pools adjusted. The next one will have more in-depth changes to it, along with further deployment changes.

One of the problems we have with the German Panzer divisions are the mix of tanks they had - pretty much all had at least 3 tank types, and some had 4 (2 different PzKpfw III models), with each battalion having 3 types in it. Since WIR only allows a battalion to have 1 tank type, they can't be set up historically, and we have decided to use 4 battalions per division to represent the mix. With only 3, the PzKpfw III/PzKpfw 38t battalion will be much stronger than the other 2 types, causing replacement problems. How have you handled this issue?

Anyway, you can e-mail whenever through my address in my info screen.

I look forward to seeing what you have done.

Yes Vinnie, I to have also been hacking up these OOB data files since I first purchased this game on the Amiga which is called "Second Front", as they bear little re-semblance to actual historical values, plus I was trying to give the AI a better edge. So I to would like to request that I to be emailed your OOB files to burtfam@southwest.com.au I found that the Amiga binary data files could be loaded into WiR and so have picked up from where I left off on these Amiga data files, including the map, and map supply definition files.. I have completely hacked the map file, with my one being much more accurate in terms of distance between the key cities (berlin, warsaw, minsk, leningrad, moscow, stalingrad, kharkov, rostov, sevastopol etc) and all the other minor towns. Also after all these years of hacking these files, I have developed an offset map of where the many and varied variables begin and end, and how they are stored. This has allowed me to pretty well alter just about every value including date, weather etc etc for this game... A hex editor is with this game, a very necessary companion. ...Shane..

You need to buy Niehorster's books. You need both parts of Volume 3 especially.

Vol 3, Part 1 gives VERY detailed info on all of the Heer mobile divisions.

Vol 3, Part 2 gives similar info for the SS divisions and non-divisional artillery (FA, AT, AA).

There is a Volume 4 which covers Heer mobile divisions in 1942. Part 2, with SS and non-divisional formations has not yet been printed, although his notes say it was completed several years ago.

Most of my files seem to be on my other machine, and I'm in meetings all next week. I'll send you some spreadsheets on Monday, 30 October.

I may have a reasonably clean copy of Scenario J on this machine. I destroyed a number of files when I installed a new (BIGGER) hard drive some time back. If I can find THAT I'll send it along.
