Comparison...

Post by Jarhead0331 »

I'm pretty interested in maybe purchasing this game. What appeals to me is depth, complexity and options...a whole lot of options...

How would you compare Starshatter to Universal Combat or any of the other games in the Battlecruiser series...Derek Smart isn't my favorite guy in the world, but he sure has vision and for that, I give him some credit...

Ah, does "de.ci.sive.ness" translate into this much impatience? [:D]

Seriously, I'm surprised that no one jumped in on this. I have Starshatter, but haven't really had the time to play it past the initial tutorials. I like it though.

Perhaps you could share your reactions now that you went ahead and bought the game [:'(]

I have every BattleCruiser that was ever released and even the release that had to ordered directly from 3000ad for $15.00, burned on the office's computer. I was one of the first to send him and take two a nasty gram back in 96 when Take Two released the first BattleCruiser that you could not even play because it was't even half finished. He repaired his game and moved on.

I don't care much for Derek's attitude myself, he's the young man who never grew up. Although as much as he's had his ass kicked around within the industry, I would think he's alot more mature than he lets on.

I only have the Demo of Starshatter at the moment, it's interesting to play and I may one day purchase it. I don't think it's at the level of Universal Combat. Keep your eye and ears open for the next edition from Derek, A World Apart.

To the Starshatter community, I like the game, but I'll watch your threads a little while longer, before I decide to buy StarShatter.

Deservedly so; the man has an ego the size of a planet but has yet to produce anything to justify it. Its a shame in a way. He has talent and he has ideas, he just needed an employer or partner who could keep him in check and successfully deliver a part of the "great design" rather than repeatedly screwing up attempts to deliver all of it.

I think the People at DreamCatcher just might be what he needed. They don't seem to take much Sh#t from him, he left, attempted to file a law suit against them, came back and he has stayed with them the longest.

But I think your wrong about what he has delivered to date.

Has anyone in the industry ever attempted to " deliver all of it " , if they did the industry would disappear.

Done.[&:]

Done what ?[:)]

Do you ever wonder about what the originators of this industry were considered, I include original, Commodor, Atari, Sega, Nintendo etc.

Does loose cannons, freaks, dreamers come to mind?

I do think that freaky, dreaming, loose cannon has kept alot of others on their toes and high stepping.[;)]

Well...not exactly. Althought the Alaska Class was desigend with the same features in mind it is not called "Battlecruiser (BC)"
CB means "Large Cruiser", a designation currently only occupied by the Alaska Class...look here for more info

I have a blood connection to the GUAM

It was and still is not my intention to offend anyone in this forum, but it is still a fact that the proper designation in not Battlecruiser, no matter how glorious and colorful these ships' history is. I simply prefer to call things by their proper name, and it is not my mistake the GUAM was designated CB, but it was.

What the USMC? decisive? Im not knocking the armed forces but come one. Decisiveness entails carrying out a mission w/o it getting botched.

(Note to the Armed Forces: I relizes your doing your job, a job any will not do.For that you have my respect .)

You are perfectly right about that.
And I have decided to give the Klingons in my ST mod a CB, too.
The D10 will be mostly a D7 with increased capabilities, placing it between the D7 and C7, the Klingons' CA and BC.
Besides, any ideas for a Klingon CC in the TOS era?
