Headquarters

Post by mmarquo »

1.What is the sphere of influence of the HQ units...how close do the corps have to be to the HQs...what are the benefits...when should I transfer a unit from one HQ to another?

Thanx

Your HQ must be within 5 hexes of a unit to give it special supply, so thats the real limitation. Units out of range of its HQ are not only unable to get special supply, they can't get reinforcements from the HQ, and the HQ's leader will be unable to influence the battle.

As for transferring between HQs, I don't understand your question. There shouldn't be to much transferring between HQs unless you're playing the Soviets at the beginning of Campaign '41.

Question?

Well if you controll units individually, you can end up with a single unit very long from its intended HQ. As you can't mark a HQ and find units that suppose to be under it with ease (other color on map for example) that might happen often.

Now if I could understand why I only can use the HQ in finland for controlled air operations, as interdictions etc.

Dont know if the others are automatic or something (they do some air OP, but that is the general battle support that is supposed to be automatic) but I tried to change it wo succeding.

Yes, what forces should I leave outside the Eastern front, as to not get any nasty surprices. I have no clue as to when and how much to send back and forth, besides some dim remembrerance of SS panzer units at certain dates in other games.

You can track down the sub-units of an HQ by opening the ground unit listing for the HQ and selecting the sub-unit to find. This will jump you to the sub-unit in question. Not as convenient or nice as what you suggest, but it does work.

Without more details, this is a guess, but an HQ cannot launch player controlled air ops after doing anything else with the HQ, such moving, transferring units in or out, etc. I believe most things will eliminate the player control, anyway, so I always try to launch my air attacks first, and then do everything else.

As a general rule, if you don't touch you West and Italian (or South?) front units, you will be fine for events there as reinforcements should keep their strength where it needs to be for the entire war. I rarely touch these HQs unless I feel I need the boost of a couple of divisions from them. If you do that, just remember to replace them within the near future.

To C3I2:

In addition to what RickyB said, if you have a unit and want to know the HQ for that unit, select the unit and press 'h'. This will center the cursor on that unit's HQ AND highlight all the other units assigned to that HQ.
