Thanks for the map, String
Outside the map:
Wake fell on the first day (2 weeks before RL date)
Hong Kong on Dec 18th (one week before RL date)
Rabaul is excepted to fall today (one month before RL date)
Now the world wonders where are the CVs of both sides ? Up to now BBs, cruisers and DDs took most of the glory in the newspapers.

Six B-17 based in S Borneo bombed oil fields in Brunei in the morning.
A raid launched from Kuching (15 figthers, 5 torpedo planes and 8 bombers) attacked a convoy 240 miles NE of this port and torpedoed CL Isuzu. Allied crews reported massive explosive damage.
Kuching planes continues to be active in the afternoon, attacking 3 TFs N of Borneo but scored no more hit.
BB Revenge was attacked just N of Kuching by 8 Nells from Saigon. Her CAP, 3 CW-21B, was unable to defend her and lucky to evade the 20+ Zeroes escorting the raid. The BB was hit by one torpedo while one Nell was shot down by AA.

Dawn saw the mini-KN now behind Menado and Amboina. She was attacked by 15 bombers and 16 fighters. The CAP shot down 2 fighters and 1 Hudson and lost a Zero. Bombers hit nothing and lost a Martin 139 to AA fire. 3 other Kendari Martins missed a CA off Amboina. Another aid from Kendari was launched in the afternoon with 2 Martin and 12 escorts but 12 Zeroes repulsed it and shot down 2 Brewster, 1 P-40E and 1 bomber.
Force Z was still at Kendari but was not attacked today.
Rabaul
3 CL and 4 DD bombed the base night and day, destroying 3 Wirraways on the ground. 13 Zeroes flew a sweep from Truk but found no targets as the CAP of 2 Wirraways eluded them. Australian airmen managed to attack 2 CLs with 2 Hudsons and 2 Wirraways in the afternoon but scored no hit.
Japanese troops took a day of rest, only bombing Allied lines.
Pacific
In the morning, SS I-21 found the TF that sank yesterday the I-4. It was thought that it was damaged ships going to the W coast but in fact they were reinforcements sailing to PH, including the CV Saratoga. I-21 managed to hit her with one torpedo but was then sunk by 5 DD of the escort, that scored no less than 10 hits... This was 600 miles E of Pearl Harbor.
China
Japanese MSW continue to sweep Allied minefields off Hong Kong.

RE: 20 December 1941
December 20th has been one of the most painful turns yet. A BB and a CV put out of action for a long time even before they made their first combat. Atleast the revenge had kept the enemy invaders away from Kuching up until now [:o]
I have never played the SRA part in a PBEM before and the pressure from the japs is very heavy, i don't want to know what's going to happen when the KB shows up [:(] We still haven't made much damage, atleast the two DD's that were torpedoed by our PT's have now sunk. That makes for 8-7 DD's and a CL sunk + 2-3 AK's. Nothing stellar imho.
Aircraft losses are also worrying, Dutch units are being depleted with a rapid pace etc.
The only major surface ship left in SRA that is operational is BB Prince of Wales. Besides the dutch CL's everything else is damaged.
*sigh*

21 December 1941
Malaya
Khota Bharu was bombed at night by Blenheims. After dawn 72 medium bombers and 91 (!!!) B-17 bombed Alor Star airfield, that was fortunally empty.
84 Zeroes escorted 21 Nells from Saigon to Singapore and met a CAP of 35 Allied fighters. They shot down 28 at a cost of 18 Zeroes (most falling to AVG guns) (real losses, no FOW or overclaiming numbers). Nells were not intercepted and sank a British AK with torpedoes.
Borneo
Several Japanese TFs gathered 120 miles N of Kuching. Torpedo planes and bombers from this base attacked them several times and reported BBs and cruisers. They only scored a bomb hit on BB Nagato (no damage) while losing a Vildebeest to AA fire.
PI
Japanese troops landed in Jolo. A minefield protecting the island was discovered in time and no ship entered it.
Celebes
The mini-KB sailed closer to Kendari and was at 120 miles of the base at dawn. Allied planes attacked it without success and 4 escort fighters were shot down by Zeroes flying CAP. Several surface TFs were reported by Japanese planes at Kendari and around but were not attacked.
Amboina was shelled during the night by two BBs and escort and then assaulted by the 56th Japanese brigade and small IJN units. It fell and most of the garnison retired to the jungle, leaving behind them a wrecked base and burning oilfields.
Rabaul
A small bombardment TF shelled the base and destroyed a Catalina during the night. Troops of both sides exchanged shells with little effect.
Pacific
Glens launched by submarines reported several TFs around Hawai islands.
China
South-west of Changsha, a Chinese corps holding the road is repulsed into the countryside by larger Japanese forces (a Div, 2 Bde and 1 Tk Rgt). But its delaying success has been useful.
Because at the same time the Chinese forces gathered in Changsha (16 Corps and 1 Tk Rgt) launched a shock attack against the Japanese troops besieging the city (4 Div, 4 ENG and 3 ART units) and repulsed them with serious losses towards Wuhan (attack succeeded at 4 to 1).
More Japanese troops arrived in Yenen but activity here is reduced to artillery fire.

That rout at Changsha was a treat [:D]
edit:
The japanese are moving everywhere faster than the historical pace. Is it usual in PBEM's or are we getting our asses kicked?

Except the early taking of Wake and Hong Kong (that both fell in late December in RL) and Burma (where WITP allowed a faster advance than in RL), our advance isn't ahead of historical timeline.
We seized Amboina with troops that historically took Davao and Cagayan with troops historically at Legaspi.
The landing in Rabaul was a month ahead of schedule but failed to take the base. I had always waited in my other games to have ENG units available to attack Rabaul but this game is the first where I saw Wake fall on the first day, with an historical turn. So the South Seas Detachment was available immediatly after Guam capture and I made the usual mistake, wondering what I would do with this free unit rather than thinking first of an overall plan.... and bang...
Miri, Brunei, Jolo were all taken historically in December 1941.
Our plane and ships losses are higher than in RL while Allied ships losses (in sunk ships) are lower.
We are rather late compared to the usual PBEM... but maybe there is a reason for it.

12/22/41 was the worst turn yet when considering air losses. 19 air to air losses vs 3 [:(]
Okay, 10 of those were chinese fighters but still... I just hope that by now i've eaten through most of his naval pilot pool. B-17 pilots complained about the lack of toothpaste and didn't fly today.. [:@]
A large japanese battlefleet of 2BB 1CA 2 CL and 10 DD bombarded Kuching tonight. Damage wasn't too heavy because the torpedo boats there distracted the bombarding taskforce long enough.
Jap troops landed at Bulla,Sorong,Jesselton and Namlea
During the day quite a few japanese bombers hit the burning hulks in Manila bay, further damaging them. Our aircraft from Kendari smashed themselves against the zero cap of the baby KB
The only two successes were the Chinese attack near Kaifieng that routed the evil japanese forces and the succesful attack by SS Tarpon, hitting the troop laden AP Anyo Maru with one torpedo

The Chinese are being very aggressive in China. But have they stuck their head out too far? We shall see [;)]
Baby KB continues to ignore suitable targets but is usefully wasting away the allies remaining bombers in the SRA.
A sudden communications failure at Pacific & Carolines HQ meant these forces have a new guiding hand for a day or so. Lets see how many I can lose eh? [:D]

Situation report
Japanese forces landed at Kuching tonight. An escorting force of 4 CA and 6 DD sunk three dutch torpedo boats after surprising them in the harbor. One japanese AK hit a mine while entering the harbor.. In the morning 6 Vildebeests and 3 T.IVa's attacked the cruisers at Kuching and a vildebeest reported one hit on CA Suzuya.
Khota Bharu airfield was hit by 169 bombers, 102 of them being B-17's. This strip will be out of action for some time.
Japanese have moved Sonias and Betties to Songhia (sp?) and they hit 15th Indian brigade and AP Kanimba. Kanimba was sunk but the indian brigade suffered only minor casualties.
The Philippines saw some action today with japanese bombers hitting both Clark Field and the burning hulks in Manila harbor. AS Canopus and two AK's settled on the bottom after the bombers left.
Our forces showed the yellow devils that having aircraft on Luzon doesn't make it safe for their ships. Two torpedo boats attacked a japanese convoy near Lingayen and sunk an escorting PG Kyo Maru with a torpedo hit.
Japanese carriers were attacked again south of celebes with no results. The last strike did bring down some zeroes. Namrea, Sorong, Bulla and Jesselton were all captured today.

Malaya
As usual Khota Bharu was bombed by Blenheims during the night.
In the morning, 80 Nells and 26 Betties were sent from Saigon to bomb Singapore airfields. They were escorted by 26 Zeroes who opened them the way. 32 Allied fighters were met and 18 were shot down (8 Hurricanes, 3 Wirraways, 3 Sea Gladiators (one by a Nell), 2 Buffaloes and 2 P-40) against one Zero lost (destroyed by a Gladiator !!). 3 bombers were shot down by CAP and 2 by AA fire. Bombing was inefficient and only destroyed 2 Buffaloes and 2 B-17 on the ground. F1/Tainan Zero pilots were at the end of the day credited with 48 victories since the start of the war.
Three Japanese Divisions and a Tk Rgt launch a deliberate attack on Kuala Lumpur, defended by 4 Brigades and a Base Force. Fortifications were reduced from 4 to 3 (assault at 2 vs 1).
Another division and a brigade took Georgetown. The last unit in the island, Penang Fortress, surrendered and 2400 POWs were added to the bag.
Borneo
Bombers from Singkawang and Singapore flew repeated missions (total 110 bomber and 40 fighter sorties) against 4 AK unloading off Kuching without escort or CAP. One was sunk and the 3 other badly damaged by bombs and torpedoes. They were all easily destroyed by an Allied surface TF that sailed in the base during the day with 2 CA, 7 CL and 6 DD.
PI
The Dutch DD Van Ghent led again 3 PT to raid Jolo but this time they were intercepted and surprised by the CL Naka and 2 DD. Two surface actions saw many wild shooting and torpedo firing but the end result was only one PT sunk against one shell bouncing on the Naka.
In the morning, an ASW group sank the submarine USS Perch north of Vigan. This is the first confirmed submarine sinking by Japanese forces. Later a PG depth-charged unsuccessfully another submarine south of Mindanao.
Celebes
Japanese officers had found Sorong and Namlea totally empty when they landed those last days. They wondered where the Dutch police officers were gone until this day. Headhunters came from the jungle hexes near the base and greeted the liberators with Dutch heads as welcome gifts. Both hexes are now under Japanese control.
Allied airmen reported two Japanese TF just east of Kendari and in the evening a damaged American SS reported being chased in this area by 4 DD escorting a CL. She escaped.
Rabaul
Both sides exchanged artillery fire.
Pacific
A damaged TK sank under tow just off Pearl Harbor. It was one of the two hit in the last days by Japanese submarines.
China
Artillery fire in Yenen. Probable heavy troops move by both sides.
Malaya
