What the USMC? decisive? Im not knocking the armed forces but come one. Decisiveness entails carrying out a mission w/o it getting botched.

(Note to the Armed Forces: I relizes your doing your job, a job any will not do.For that you have my respect .)

The great Ronald Reagan once said, "There are two kinds of people in the world. U.S. Marines, and those who wish they were..." You, sir, clearly fall into the later category...

And I have decided to give the Klingons in my ST mod a CB, too.
The D10 will be mostly a D7 with increased capabilities, placing it between the D7 and C7, the Klingons' CA and BC.

Awesome idea!!![&o]

Jarhead,

You did make a good decision. I've always been fond of simulations and Air and Space combat will to this day be my favorite. SS does a really great job of combining both the in the cockpit experience as well as the commander experience. The differences I've noticed between SS and BC/UC are obvious. Because of how huge BC/UC are Mr. Smart overlooks an important element of warfare, dynamics. Dynamics not just in war but in his living universe also.

The dynamic campaign in SS works really well because any major accomplishment or failure effects the progress of the campaign. While we all know that no one person can win a conflict, the SS campaign also does things right by using limited forces. There is no super huge, unlimited military forces at either sides disposal during the campaign. Which means if any spawning of forces is taken away from the pool and when destroyed will never come back.

BC/UC fails here because even if you were to destroy the primary enemy starbase as well as destroy every military force on the enemy planet everything will be rebuilt in no time flat. Hell you even get to watch them do it. You don't get to control that sector or anything of the sort. There's no real sense of accomplishment.

In my current campaign in SS I destroyed about 60% of the enemy's 1st Fleet early on in the campaign and because of this they have had to activate the 4th Fleet. My best bet would be to finish off the 1st Fleet as soon as possible to keep things even and maybe make the enemy rethink it's own tactics. This cannot be done in BC/UC from what I can tell. BC/UC doesn't even give you control of battlegroups. It's one man one ship until you hit fleet command and even then you can't really build true battlegroups. If a planet under your control were to come under attack no one would know cause there are never any calls for help. Ships just fly around and engage in combat whenever they encounter each other. All the programming involved in Mr. Smarts game and yet he couldn't look ahead enough to place a value on certain planets to make them worth fighting for or defending?

A planet valuable in fuels or minerals would make me start an operation to capture that planet. But how should I do that when there's a an enemy base one it as well as a battlegroup? If accomplished I could use that fuel to help support my war effort and keep my ships going. But once this is accomplished I now have a new isse to deal with. That is getting ships safely to and from the location as well as keeping the enemy from taking it back from me. On top of that the enemy should feel a bit of a pinch now because they just lost a valuable asset. This could cause a problem for them financially as well as politically. The people would demand that something be done about the gowing shortage in fuels and materials. Get what I'm saying now?

Lastly, BC/UC starts you off with a crew that is not only green they have a kindergarden intellect. I could never understand the reason for that really. The AI for the brains in The Sims 2 is frightening in comparison. No one should take a ship into combat with a crew that still wears diapers. All I'm saying is that while the universe in BC/UC does seem to live in a sense battles are little more than a way to keep you from being totally bored. Where as with SS it causes you to think about your next step before you jump into a system. You will literally find yourself planning out your tactics. SS isn't as big as BC/UC but it does a great job with what it currently has.

RBWhite,

You are right about Mr. Smart's ego. Too bad it's unjustified. For someone that wishes to be God his power/ability to create a world seems pretty limited. But he does have his followers from what I've seen on his forums so I guess that's good. You become a god without followers. LOL! [8D]

Don't get me wrong the guys weird, and single minded.

I just think when he took it apon himself to finish BattleCruiser when Take Two just dumped it on the market showed he had some testicles (I guess you can say that in the forum).

Your right he does believe he is devine, that's why you don't see my name anywhere in his forum.[;)] You might find me at Starport Central/StarfilghtIII on ezBoard, but thats even iffy[:(]

I do think Mr. Smart[ass] has set the heigth of the bar to be jumped.[8D]

His intrests are limited, otherwise he would be producing more that just the BattleCruiser series[>:]

I like the BattleCruiser series. Their detailed and difficult to play and at times frustrating.[:@]

Now, if DreamCatcher can keep him in line, well that remains to be seen

In time, a short time, I'll buy StarShatter, it's new and evolving and I'm sure I'll like it too.[:)]

Jarhead,

You're welcome. Glad I could be of assistance. AIM HIGH!!! [8D]

RBWhite,

There's no way to get you wrong on this subject. LOL! You are more than right about that yahoo. LOL! But I too must give him props for sticking it out after that Take Two fiasco. That was one messed up situation and Take Two aren't the only ones to pull such stunts on developers.

You are right that he does own the bar for the type of sim he's created. I just think that with a few added features he could really clean up. Alot of people say that his simulation is way too detailed and difficult to get into and in a way they may be right. People said the same thing about Falcon 4.0 because the sim came with a manual that was the thickness of a bible but that's what's to be expected. How can you fully submerse yourself in a sim or game if you don't feel like you are learning something and entering into something new?

Players actually grow and evolve as they go on. You soon notice that the same old thing gets old and people start to demand more for their money. If they don't feel challenged while at the same time feeling that suspension of belief they will pass your work by. I like SS because while graphics wise it's not HL2 or Doom 3 it has more depth than most space sims out there.

Take Starshatters' dynamic campaign and fleet composition but ship size ala Freespace 2, add with that BC/UC's living universe, character interation and intelligence via The Sims 2 for civilians. Then Finally HL2's or Doom 3's graphics engine and you have the space simulation many of us are dreaming of.

But you are also right that SS is evolving still. I just hope we get alot more put into the mix before Matrix or whoever asks Milo to cease current operations and begin work on SS 2. [:(] We all know it will happen cause it always does.

The fact that StarShatter is still evolving and there is the intentions of there being SS2, I guess I'll have to go along up the road with you.

Maybe the game were all waiting for will be StarShatter II 0r III.

I think Mr. Smart's big bang universe will probly implode the next time he has one of his hissy fits. Which I'm sure isn't to far off.

Matrix should have spell checker enabled in the forum or give me a dictonary

You know what they say, don't you? About how us MechWarriors are the modern knights, how warfare has become civilized now that we have to abide by conventions and rules of war. Don't believe it.
