Changing order parameters

Post by David Fisher »

hi,

I'm playing my second post-tutorial scenario -- Para Rescue, Day 1, 23:40. I ordered an attack north-west from Son bridge by the 1/6th Queen's Inf. Hadn't intended the attack to drag on through the night -- but there it was, units tired out and slowly pushing forwards. Impatient with this, I remembered (or thought I remembered) something about how there was no delay incurred in changing the parameters of the order, eg the speed, aggro etc. I clicked the Attack Order and under "Move" changed "Normal" to "Fastest". This had the opposite effect to what I'd intended as units now began to generate move orders -- back the way they had come! They were all re-orging like mad and it looked like they were setting up a whole new FUP from scratch. Was this an effect of my changing the parameters, or was it an effect of fatigue/casualties? In changing the parameter, had I somehow set up a new attack, only one with no delay attached?

Re the game in general: It's wonderful to see the catastrophic effects of too-frequent changes of plan. I wish more wargames represented this.

cheers

David,

What you are seeing when the forces went back to the FUP is a replan. I'd be surprised whether the change to "Fastest" would have caused the replan. More likely that a reassessment occurred about the same time and decided to replan. I'll look into this further. Thanks.

Yes, I guess it was coincidence -- I noticed subsequently this formation did at least one other "replan", without my changing the parameters. But then -- their fatigue levels were high, they were being ordered to attack through a wood, at night, against an invisible enemy -- I'd have probably ordered a replan in their shoes!

cheers
