Why can't I add a new unit?

Great game but I have one major problem. I can't figure out how to add a new unit. I'm playing as the axis and everytime I add a new unit no matter what it is or where I place it it dissappears the next turn. What am I doing wrong, I've looked in the manual but I can't find anything about that it just says add a unit. I'm sure its a simple thing but I'm getting tired of the Soviet winter offensive destroying me, I'd really like to a few untits to fill in those gaps etc. Thanks.

Are you adding any divisions or other combat units before ending your turn? Adding a unit without any combat units assigned will definitely result in the added unit disappearing at the end of the turn. That is the only cause I have ever run into, and done it more than once or twice myself.

That was the problem, it all makes sense now. Thanks for the help, now I have a fighting chance.
