A little piece of advice...

Post by KB »

Hello all!

I just recently found out of this wonderful game, and two days ago I got around to download it. As my first game, I choosed to play the Russians in 1944. Being new to the game and quite new to strategy games, I choosed to not do anything revolutionary. I also decided to not fiddle with industries and such, svaing it for a later game. I launched an offenisve against Army Group Center, with the objectives of taking Warzaw and Krakow. The offensive, unfortunatly, slowed down to a halt during the late autumn, but thanks to the guys fighting out there, the 1st Ukrain. Front managed to at least snatch Krakow.

Then I attacked again, on Christmas Eve, along the whole front. In the north, things went well. A limited offensive during the summer had given me good positions and all I needed to do was to roll up the German line. The same thing was for the south front, where I launched a general offensive towards Belgrade, but I didn't care much about that quite sleepy part of the front.

In the center, the attack proceeded well, at least in the beginning. Eventually, I was quite stopped at Warzaw, and when I finally captured the town it was about too late. My new lines were at the border of Germany, all I had to do now was to attack and surely the Wehrmacht would break down. But, as mentioned, I was to late. My forces crossed Oder and captured Prague during the last turn of the game (I hadn't noticed the time limit) and so it ended as a draw.

Now, when I'm finished boring you with my stories;-) I want some help. Frankly, how do I play the Russians good. Proven strategies, for example. Shall I pay any importance to Finland? This time I didn't...And, what does it mean when a German front shatters. The West Front did? How do I make this happen?

Thanks in advance for every answer...

Playing as russian gives you enormus amount of troops and tanks.Start the offensiv and keep more forces ready to join in.Remeber to switch the front units sp the dont get shattered when the Germans strikes back.
When i play a long camp as russian i use the
finns as a training ground for my airforce.
But it all depends on if you are playing a human or the AI.
Have played Wir since the first version and now i play this superb version from matrix.

The West and Italian Fronts shatter based on an event check against a specified Allied strength (built into the code) with random changes for a leadership check. There is nothing you can do as the Soviets to effect this at all, it is strictly a check of the Axis strength against the Allied strength, so only the Axis can effect it.

OK, but does it have any impact on the East Front combat, i.e. will the Germans get more units if they do better in Italy7France?

No, no impact on the East, and you can't really "do better", you can hold off the inevitable a little while longer, but you can't change the end result.
