Ed Cogburn or anyone

Post by StratMan »

On the 24 december last year there was a topic asking for help using the editor, titled "editing help" posted by rayraymuff.

"The game only has slots for 100 leaders, so you can't make new ones.you can modify existing ones however, using editwir. In the games edit mode, you can change the name and rating, but not the delay which controls when the leader becomes available. Apparently, you need to use editwir to set the delay".

My question is, are you talking about the file "editwir" in the Matrix folder? or am I missing something here. I have played a couple of times with the editwir file, and although it creates a new file, I have done nothing with this and no changes have been apparent during play.
2nd question. Is it possible to create a scenario using editwir? or are we restricted to use the scenario editor in game?
Thanx
The StratMan.

I agree. How does the Map Editor and the other editor interact with one another to create a totally new scenerio? (If it can be done at all).

There is an in-game editor that you can choose at the startup of WIR itself. This allows certain things to be changed very easily, including the creation of a new scenario. Basically, pick an existing scenario to start with, make the changes you can here, and then save things into a scenario. The save works just like in a game - you pick a slot and have a scenario called scena, for example, along with scena.md (map data?) that has the initial supply levels and hex control based on how you set things.

Then you would use editwir to change values and other things that are difficult or not possible inside WIR itself. You load the scenario file, and adjust values as you wish. Doing this, you can change tank and plane values, factories, etc. However, many things are hard-coded into the game, so not everything you try will work, such as adding tank units into unused slots in the wrong place, SS units in different places, etc. The next upgrade will have a new editor that is much better, making things easier to change, but still not great. You will be able to set upgrade paths for tanks and planes, which can't be done now.

The map editor is used to adjust the map file, which is then used in all scenarios, both yours and built-in, I believe. Thus, you can only have one map.
