Scenario of arbitrary length?

Post by Vinnie O »

Is it now possible to create a scenario that runs perhaps 2 years (100 turns)? If the Germans hadn't finished off the Ruskis by the Spring of '43, they simply weren't EVER gonna win.

In version 1 there was some max limit (like 60 turns) for a scenario, above which the scenario would simply had to run for the full 4 years.

I REALLY like WiR, and I ESPECIALLY like the flexibility you're giving the wargamer with EditWiR, but since you were nice enough to give me cake for dessert, can I have some ice cream, TOO?!

If this isn't "fully supported", is there a CHEAT that lets me edit the scenario length outside the normal editors?

You set the scenario length by entering the in-game editor, select UTIL, and Game Len is 3rd from the bottom. However, as you expected, it can't be set higher than 68 turns (which maybe you already saw, it sounds like).

The only way of changing it that I am aware of would be with a hex editor, but then you would need to identify where in the scenario file the length is stored. I have never tried it on this game, but maybe someone else has.

I doubt Arnaud would try to change this setting in the game as he is trying to wrap things up on the next release, which will probably be the last (except for any significant bugs that come up). Sorry.

Yeah, I kinda remembered it being less than 75.

68 turns is probably enough to test whether the Germans could have won outright in the East.

Either they take Leningrad and Moscow by the end of the Summer of 1942 or they lose.

Taking Stalingrad and Baku is gravy. They'd fall like ripe fruit if Moscow is already gone.

Like I say, this is a GREAT game. The scale is just about perfect for grand tactical, and I can edit anything I don't agree with. What more can a gamer ask for?

And the updated editor will add some features making it much easier to use. Like you can edit the armor sub-units of a division/corps right from the unit, instead of trying to find the armor sub-units that match in the armor segment. I think you and everyone will be very happy with the way the next release plays out.
