Readiness loss from air & ground attack

Post by NEON DEON »

The manual states that every time a unit is attacked by air it loses readiness, and if it is attacked by ground 10% is lost also. But, when air interdicting units, the unit attacked by air almost never loses readiness.
And ground attacks seem to only yield a 5% loss of readiness as opposed to 10% as stated
in the manual.
Also, I attacked a Russian Tank korps filled with tanks 11 times with 11 bomber wings. Each wing averageing about 80 making it to target. The air attack killed no tanks!

Yep, the latest release reduced air attacks to a pitifully weak level, especially against tanks. This has been at least partially corrected in the upcoming release, and we think works about right. If you send single level bomber units against an entrenched force, you are still not likely to hurt many tanks, but Stukas, or massed bombers can do some heavy damage. However, the bombers are still weaker than in the original, where you could literally destroy a unit just with air power, so if you liked that, the next release will still not be good. I do believe that readiness will only be affected when you get some level of disruption in the attack, which will require a greater concentration than before. No disruption, then no readiness loss is how it seems to play.

Rick,

Does disrubtion only occur if the unit is over stacked?? If so might as well give the Luftwaffe the day off.)

No - if the combat results are severe enough from the bombing (or artillery will do it too during combat) you will get a message that 5th Rifle Division suffered Moderate Disruption, or Massive, or whatever. This indicates readiness loss, and is entirely based on bomb weight on target, entrenchment level, and chance. I don't think anything else goes into the calculation. From what I have seen playing the latest version, 1 bomber unit (not Stukas though) can only do this when the target is not entrenched, or when very lucky. On the other hand, playing the Soviets using the 4 TB3 bombers against a panzer korps, I was able to knock out lots of guns and tanks, and drop the readiness, but that was with 500 bombers reaching the target.
