Another Preview!?

Gary Grigsby's World At War gives you the chance to really run a world war. History is yours to write and things may turn out differently. The Western Allies may be conquered by Germany, or Japan may defeat China. With you at the controls, leading the fates of nations and alliances. Take command in this dynamic turn-based game and test strategies that long-past generals and world leaders could only dream of. Now anything is possible in this new strategic offering from Matrix Games and 2 by 3 Games.

More compliments about a strategy game both complicated enough for the hardcore and easy enough for anyone!

Tha AXIS and ALLIES reference will be unavoidable, as evidenced by the various posts in this forum, but RISK should never be mentioned in any preview or review.........

LOL, that reference to RISK! made me cringe a little, too, until I realized that the total sales figures for RISK! would probably make Matrix pretty happy.

I am hoping that GGWAW will "cross over" to the non wargaming crowd, and if you are drescribing the game to a non grog, the RISK! comparison (global game of area movement) is almost unavoidable.

Do not get me wrong....I have RISK on my notebook and it is still a fun game to play, but the reference does not at all apply....

I guess in the REALLY grand scheme of gaming genres, maybe Risk and WaW compare in that they both a) are world wide in scale, b) don't get into the weeds on combat below the strategic level and c) are turn-based. Yeah, he was a lot closer with Axis & Allies, but I can see where the reviewer is coming from, especially if he wants to convey his idea to someone not familiar with grand tactical turn-based war games. More and more previews are turning up every day, it must mean the big day is near!
