von Manstein's tank raid to Dvinsk

Post by Mist »

It looks impossible to reach Dvinsk at first turn with 56th Panzer Korps. In history, Dvisnk was captured by 56th P.K. 26th june despite of heavy fightings during the tank raid. Is units position historical in the scenario of 41th?

I can't answer whether the specific location of the 56th is correct or not. However, the game does not simulate breakthroughs real well, especially for Barbarossa. A tank corps can plot 5 hexes max, which is about 100 miles per week, I think. Historically, the Panzers were moving much farther than that in the opening days of the war. I think there were units that moved 150 miles in 1 DAY, at the very beginning. These quick moving units would leave security detachments behind also, while the game represents these hexes passed through as a giant void unless follow up units hold them, which is ahistorical.

It is also impossible to reach Minsk on a historical timeline. It is just one of the things that the game does not represent well, which is common in most wargames - either the movement is too high for most situations, based on the maximum reached, or it is too low for the exceptional situations, like the first days of the blitzkrieg.
