New person here

Post by bigmed1204 »

Been playing some of the more modern games, Kp BiN etc and really wanted to learn to play this and Pacwar. Anyone have any basic advice? what does a normal turn consist of, etc? and also would be nice to run in windowed mode if anyone knows how to hook that up. thanks.

You really have to read the manual its pretty complex but once you understand its all fun. A normal turn is one week I beleive. I don't think you can do windows mode on this game since its pre-windows. To me out of all the older war games this is the best one ever made.

You can use DosBox to run it in a window. Get it from
http://prdownloads.sourceforge.net/dosb ... e?download
After you install, you make a shortcut on the desktop. Then drag-and-drop the Wir executable on top of this shortcut and voila! Use ctrl-F12 to make it run faster and ctrl-F9 to quit. Read the instructions for more commands.
This is also about the only way to make the game run under XP.

A normal turn consists of:
ORDERS PHASE:
- changing factory production, if necessary
- transferring divisions between your corps or HQs
- moving corps and HQs in your own territory
- air missions
- ordering your corps to plot into enemy held territory
COMBAT PHASE:
- hit "combat" and watch it

A very useful command is Alt-R during the orders phase. This will create a text file in your game folder giving you very detailed information.
