RE: Buna's time

Post by Gen.Hoepner »

Allied Catalinas today spotted my fleet that passed by Gili Gili. For the second day in a row there hasn't been any Air attack over Lae or Buna. He's surely resting his units for the upcomming epic battle.
He said PM is a FORTRESS and none cannot conquer it by now. Probably there i will find a Marine Division and for sure at least 1 Australian Brigade. I count a lot on my BBs to open the way. I will be forced to strongly use my LR bombers at Rabaul in order to smooth the defences there.
4 more days and the landings will begin......

The only news that is worth to be pubblished is this one. Another strong raid over Port Moresby with some more escort. We'll keep on going with this way. What he's going to do to defend PM? Bring his CVs? Place at PM some beuforts and some fighters? or simply wait and see if his divisions will push back in the waves the japanese?

When you go for PM remember sea control is everything... more than ever! My opponent landed the hex NW of PM May 20th , 1942. It's It's September 14th now and we're still fighting inside the town... Either him or me have been unable to ensure the right amount of supply run through the enemy opposition and the fighting has been somehow undecisive [:@]

RE: Buna's time

Post by Gen.Hoepner »

I found a bit of gamey to land in a non base/dot hex, so i will invade PM directly.
Hope i brought enough troops and supplies not to face a long fight there...i will lose.

Today was a good day, even if it costed me 30 planes for operational losses[:@]
The KB who was taking care of the invasion fleet discovered a Big Fast transport convoy heading towards PM. The Cairns Express at 5 hexes far from KB's position. Launched a series of attacks (without torps due to the distance) and manage to scrumble enemy TF that was without air protection. 1 Ca,1 Cl and and 5 DDs are reported sunk and many more badly damaged. He switched his Heaviest at Naval attack but they were not able to locate the target...BTW this is going to be the major threat for this mission. I put my cap at 70%....i hope it will be enough
At Ambonia i made a little trick. Moved a Fresh zero daitai in order to intercept the horde of Hudson that every day hit the resources in that area. Got 14 hudsons shot down! Already moved back at Menado my precious zero , so that i will be able to play mouse and cat with him for a bit
Lungaville became AF level 5 today, so Lunga is now under the threat of his b-17. Moved back my air groups and put some 9 zero there....in 2 days i'll move one daitai of zero to Munda in order to LRCAP Lunga...hope time will be on my side

Fast Transport Problem

Post by Gen.Hoepner »

My opponent says there's a bug or a problem related to his fast transport do not listening to the orders given. He said he ordered them to go back at Townsville and they did not hear to his orders and proceded their own way towards PM, so they got smashed by my CVs.
He asked for a replay of that turn, so obviously no sinking will happen.
Pity: it was really a boost for my morale[:(]

Don't look back

Post by Gen.Hoepner »

Ok, it was a pity that we remade the last turn. But cannot go and keep looking at the past. It's time to fight the decisive battle for PM
Two more days and we'll land.
His fortresses patrolling the area shot down 2 of my zeros on CAP...not a good start.
The bombing over Pm are costing me a lot in terms of pilots and planes, but just cannot stop if i do not want to be slaughtered.
He seems to be very confident about his chances of pushing me back at sea.....while my fears are coming up from the deeper side of my soul.

What a day!!
My Fleet stationed at 1 hex far from Pm, ready to engage at dawn.

My heart was nearly exploding in my chest!
The whole war is being playing here, today.
The Emperor's pride, the navy pilots, engaged a deadly battle with the american monsters!
11 japanese pilots lost their lifes today.
78 B-17s will never come back home
14 dakotas, trying to bring supplies and men at PM where shot down.

Hi, Make sure you don't place all your eggs in one basket. A strike can only attack 1 TF so if all your CV are in 1 TF they are all targets. If you place 4 TF with 2 or 3 CV/l/E in a single hex they all share CAP but only a few can be targets to a single strike. I form TF with CV based on their speeds. Of course you need a lot more ships for escort but it is worth it.

Another known bug

Post by Gen.Hoepner »

Well, during the night before the landings 2/3 of my troops were unloaded on a beach 60 hex south of PM. In the morning the rsto of the army took place at PM. Now my army is splitted in two and the bulk of my forces are in a beachhex from where they cannot move enywhere ( it keeps telling me: "Supply line cannot be trained here" ). Ok, i know this bug was known but how the hell have i to make an invasion!?!??!?!
I asked my opponent to replay the turn so that i can give the "Unload Order" to my convoys only when we enter in PM hex....but i HATE to do this!

Allied guns opened fire on my men on the beach, but i've already been able to unload almost 120,000 men!

Strategical Overview:

At PM there are: 2 Australian Divisions
7 Between Brigades and Battallions
1 At unit
3 AA units
2 eng. units

Quite a strong force. It's going to be damned tough to get riddle of those aussies!! But for the moment they are isolated. today 36 Dakotas were intercepted and destroyed by my fierce CAP over the skies of PM.
The slaughter of 75 B-17s has been very usefull: Lae is now open again and 35 zeros are already CAPping the skies over there, while 25 Dive bombers and 27 Sallies are ready to operate bombing allies positions at PM.
My 100 LRbombers at Rabaul will keep on pounding the base and some more zeros are ready to be placed at Buna, now that the main threat for my AFs has moved away.
I'll wait unitll allmy troops are a-shore, then i'll start to taste his walls with my engeneers.
He doesn't have the means to threaten my carriers with only 2 CVs left. His hopes relied on his 4E bombers, but it's going to be hard to replace 75 B-17s in few days.
I have some fears for Lunga. A Zero daitais has been placed at Munda in order to CAP Lunga in case his LRbombers want to pay a visit there.

The next days will be decisive!

Thanks a lot Sprior!

The second day went smooth. Landings will be finished tomorrow, then only the supplies will be unloaded.
Lae began its activities, altough there are still several damages to the plane service, but the runaway is fine. 15 more zeros joined the party at Lae to give some more CAP( Air HQ on the way from Singapore)
There are less than 40,000 aussie troops ready to fight. My planes, my BBs and malaria are doing a good job.
In 2 days my engeneers will begin their dirty job.
Several american subs are moving towards my CVs. I created an ASW TF and set more planes to Naval search and ASW. Cannot risk to have a luky fish in one of my carrier.
He doesn't seem to dare anymore to supply PM with his dakotas, after the drama of yesterday.

Looking forward for the first attack...

This is very exciting. Seems like the allies have made a big mistake in reinforcing PM. If you have taken Gili Gili then most likely the allies there will surrender

Thanks String.
I've taken gili gili 2 months ago. It's still out of order due to the recent B-17 raids but in few days a zero daitai can operate from there.
His subs are scaring me a bit...luckly his torps are not the good ones yet!.
At PM i can gain a lot of points (350 for the base and some 1000 if i manage to destroy the allied troops)...with Chungking i shell go beyond 4-1 ratio[8D]
