SPrior vs EUB - straightening the banana

Post by sprior »

We start off fairly basic but with a landing at Mersing to try and cut off the Commonwealth forces from retreating into Fortress Singapore. So far so good, except losing the Ise when the TF commander uses wargaming orders instead of operational orders... At least he had the good grace to go down with his ship.

The north coast of Borneo is now Japans too.

I don't intend to post AAR's here except when the parts that really excite/embarass/upset me. Mostly this will be musings, thoughts and plans.

Okay, here's the plan for the first 3 months of '42.

Secure the north-south railway in China. This will eventually lead to securing all cities connected by rail. Establish airbase(s) to bomb Chungking. After that if he wants to march down those long winding roads to get he's welcome to try.

Secure Borneo to start getting resources home.

Secure Malaya (duh) and Singapore. Singers will be the springboard for the invasions of Java and Sumatra. If Plan A works these invasions should happen sooner rather than later.

Secure the approaches to Burma. Initially only 2 formations will advance into Burma to see if he will stand and fight this side of the Indian border.

Finish off the Phillipines.

Take Rabaul and establish a strong ground presence in the Solomons before he comes back at me. I may use the KB to raid as far as Tonga., maybe even lure some of his US CVs into a pointless battle. Neutralise Port Moresby.

Victoria Point and Hong Kong both fall. Imperial Guards Division arrives in Tavoy.
I didn't send a strong enough force into Cagayan, do I feel stupid! Should fall next turn.

Second wave forces start to arrive in Malaya. The Peninsula is blocked, top and bottom, by infantry divisions. Now we just squeeze. Singers should fall early.

Phillipines forces grind ahead slowly, advancing on Clark as fast as they can.

Mini-KB is deploying east to Saigon in case the RN shows up.

12/20 - 31

The allies send cruisers to bombard my troops advancing towards Manadaly but hang around too long and get a spanking from mt Betties and Nells based in Bangkok.

The land campaign continues in Malaya. Alor Star is under attack and will fall soon.

The Phillipines are crumbling quickly...

I land troops at Amboina and promptly forget about them - doh! The allies remind me by sending warships to bombard. Once more, they hang around too long, so long in fact that I have time to despatch heavy forces from Palau and give them a severe talking to as well.

Lunga is bombarded and so KB is sent off speculatively to find the Tf involved and sends them to the bottom just when they thought they were safe...

The RN, RAN, RNZN and Dutch Navies have lost 10+ CA/L as well as half a dozen destroyers between Christmas and New Year.

Sorry about the delay in updates, have been conducting an in-person recon of the defences of the island of Maui. Said defences seem to consist of young mums in bikinis and swimsuits. If any males were present they were not noticed...

Clark falls, forces retreat into Bataan. Will leave screening force in place and advance into Minali to destroy the considerable forces there.
The invasion of Rabaul is on the way.
KB is currently sailing past Guadalcanal on their way down to Noumea to spoil his build up. If nothing there will go onto Fiji to spoil the landscape there.
Kuala Lumpur falls. The Commonwealth forces in Malaya are now stuck out in the open with no forts and no way to Singapore...

Anyone actually reading this?

Subs report 2 x CA in Fiji, could they be his carriers? KB will go and have a look and convert whatever they are into new reefs.

Rabaul invasion force closes in.

KB swings by Noumea and hits 3 tankers - on to Fiji

Move Fighters to Kuching to swat pesky Dutchmen.

Starting plans for Balikpapan invasion and seizure of south coats of Borneo. Will need strong surface support to keep Dutch Navy at Bay.

Assault on Manila begins poorly.

KB swing by Suva and find it empty but hit the airfield and port hard anyway. Back to Noumea for some more target practice...

He's put B-17E's on Canton Island to bomb my boys on Baker. Will have to pay them a visit too and throw some iron at them.

Our game is nearly 6 months ahead of this one, so you won't learn much from this one!

Lost sight of Allied Cv's KB running low on fuel...

Now have sights set on Palembang and south Borneo coast. Will also reduce allied defenders of Rabaul.

Mini KB heads to north of Baker to see what they can see...
