Rob replied:
We do have a way already to voluntarily end the game. Look under the File menu item for "End Game Now". It is disabled though for PBEM games because that would allow you to falsely end the game and browse the other side to discover all their secrets. I forget which of my nasty-minded playtesters came up with that exploit but it ruined one of my secret sure fire 'the developer always wins' tricks and I'm still upset.
This is true but what I was thinking of is a feature whereby if the player voluntarily ends the scenario too early or presumptuously he/she can loose.
At present with the feature Rob mentions, I can end a scenario on turn 1 and be told I've won because for example, as the defender I hold the victory sectors. This of course isn't accurate. In reality the end of scenario message should read akin: "Coward! You haven't played long enough yet - give the other side a chance!".
Say for example by turn 4 of 20 I know I've killed most of the enemy and taken the victory sector, I should be able to end the scenario and be told: "Yep you've pretty much won and congratulations for doing so early". Alternately, if my judgements prove wrong, the message I receive should read: "Commander you've been too hasty, the enemy still remains in force and you loose".
Sometimes a player will just play too well and owing to boredom will never see a well-earned and motivational victory message because rather than clicking proceed 10+ times to bring a scen to a timed end, the game will just be quitted out.
