AHHH!!! Flashpoint or Tin soldiers:ALexander? Can someone help me decide!

Matrix Games and Simulations Canada combine and completely remake two classic NATO vs. Warsaw Pact wargames into a new classic. Based on the original wargames “Main Battle Tank: North Germany” and “Main Battle Tank: Central Germany”, Flashpoint Germany is a new grand tactical wargame of modern combat. Every aspect of modern grand tactical warfare is included, from advanced armor, air and helicopters to chemical and tactical nuclear weapons. Step into the most dangerous war.. . that never was.

I haven't played FG, but I have played Tin Soldiers. It's a very elegant system with challenging AI. If you want a great single player experience with a miniatures feel, you can't go wrong.

Depends on what you are looking for. Alexander has a great AI but only a few scenario's and isn't very well adapted for PBEM play (although I never even tried it). Fun for sword and horse crowd.

FP is great PBEM, poor AI, and fun for WWIII sorta gaming with tanks. I loved both, although I am getting a lot more out of FP due to the PBEM aspect, for which is works very well.

If my promotion comes through today (please oh please, the wife will get off my back) then I'm getting Alexander with the credit card to celebrate :D

As for Flashpoint -- it's a great game getting better. I can acknowledge I'm mediocre at modern games. Hopefully that will change. So for me, the AI is fine when I'm attacking. And the PBEM accessibility is a nice bonus. Just beginning a game now, and my men are drinking themselves stupid at the thought that they have to listen to me[:)]

Hi jjax,

Try the Alexander Tin Soldiers Demo. There is no Demo for Flashpoint. I would say if you like to play the AI and you like ancients Alexander is best. ( there is no pbem for ATS however there is tcp play )

The AI in Flashpoint, even with the new patch, is not very good at all. So only consider it if you like pbem or TCP against a human. Hopefully in the future the AI will be improved.

FPG is a good game, Alexander is a better one IMHO... certainly if most of your gaming is against the AI. That said, I'd recommend either. It really depends on what type of game you want and which period you are interested in.

Just to correct Poliorcetes, Alexander doesn't in fact support PBEM at all. It DOES support internet play which both works perfectly and is great fun.

I have both games, and I love them both. If for whaterver reason I had to remove one from my hard drive I would keep FPG. Both have great interfaces, but FPG has more long range potential for my style of gameplay. The editor alone adds alot of value, and once the AI issues are resolved it will be a very tight game. As has been noted on many posts in this forum, the interface is very well done and is very slick IMHO.

As far as Tin Soldiers goes, I love the look of the miniatures and the fact that the AI is merciless. Who can resist pushing miniature soldiers around the board? The flow of the game is also smooth, and that makes it hard to turn it off.

My advice....buy them both.[:D]

That was my way of thinking when i bought the game. FPG will probably have a longer life span on my already full hard drive.

Now if they could just work out the bugs...........

Oh, and i would by both but my credit card has already taken a pretty good beating [:@]
