LOS

Post by JudgeDredd »

Ok. Taking interest in this now (it must be close).

I didn't get HTTR and am very much looking forward to this (I decided to wait for this one so that supplies would be programmed) - I just didn't realise I'd be waiting this long or I might've parted with my cash!

Anyway, I wanted to ask - I did not like the LOS in AA:RDOA - I thought it was a bit...obscure. Is there any chance the line of sight could be like other games where a spotted area can be shaded so that at a glance you can see where you can see. I know it's different in that you don't have hexes, but you have to set a point of reference with the currect tool anyway. I just never found the LOS tool that useful and hardly used it.

Thx

Thanks for the input, we'll think about this one (no promises though).

Considering it was already in the scenario editor IIRC, it must be one of these 5 minutes coding at insane hourly rates by sterckxeke. [;)]

Dare to post a screenshot ?

The LOS area is centred on the unit under the red dot. The lighter the colour the better the visibility. Note the darker colour through the areas of light woods and the fact that it is completely blocked by the heavy woods behind the unit.

Reminds me a bit of the Steel Beast's LOS tool. I was pretty useful to locate hull down positions relative to other areas.

Of course, it was usually best to do that before the scenario started and mark them with CPs (check points) as things were much too hectic when the shooting started to begin locating BPs (battle positions).

With the above example, is the centred unit on a higher elevation? Just curious as the clear space behind some light woods is lighter.(Bringing back some horror memories of ASL LOS checking [:D])

Yeh it is. Not much of a hight difference, but enough to see over the woods.

Actually it's a good 100-200m. The contour intervals in these maps are 100m; this is really very rugged terrain!
