Rail Conversion

Post by Desertfox »

I have noticed that the Blitzkrieg rule has been changed, at least that is what it looks like. Anyway I have not really changed my strategies between versions of WIR, however I find myself "outrunning" my rail conversion quite a lot and find myself 40km from Kharkov with my rail converted almost to Kiev, mid August. I have kept my rails clear and have suffered no partisan interdictions.
1) Is this effect of slower rail conversion contributed to the Blitzkreig change?
2) Are there any tricks other people do to accelerate conversion?
3) I can not see how someone can get to Smolensk by July 15, 1941 and have anything but supply 1 on the outskirts. I got Smolensk surrounded some where around August 10, but every unit had a supply less than or equal to 1.

Am I missing something about conversion? I keep the lines open, have security troops deployed on rail line. Historically this was a serious problem of "outrunning" your supplies. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

You are right on about the supply situation in the latest version - it is very easy to outrun your supply lines and because of the change in air supply, it is more difficult to continue the advance. I don't know of any way to work around the "problem". However, along with the blizzard changes he is working on, Arnaud has made changes to boost the German rail conversion for the first few turns (into late July, I believe). This should help with this problem and give the Axis a chance at reaching Moscow before the mud. In the current version, you will be at SL1 at best adjacent to Moscow in late September with mud coming the next turn most likely. This change will boost the SL by 2-3 points probably, allowing an offensive to have a chance of seizing Moscow. Probably not a good change for games against the AI, but it should help games against humans.
