SITUATION REPORT: Early 1943

Nice screenshot freeboy. A picture conveys a thousand words. Lucky you can't manually conduct the battle or it'd be all transports suck, Nip war fleet celebrating.

Fortunately my colleague AdmSpruance is now initiating the offensive and the Nips have to basically defend.. passively or counter-attack is entirely up to you freeboy.

I hope this forum remains one of the hottest in Matrix as it was the past few months. Some other forums are so pathetic you actually wonder if its being played today or back in the 1940s.. [:-]

Keep up the good reporting neutral observers, my colleague and esteemed opponent freeboy. [&o]

Majority of the Tonys were destroyed on the ground. I cant speak for the experience levels of the Japanese, but there had been heavy AC attrition for both sides so neither side probably had very high experience levels.

USAAF: OPERATION ROLLING THUNDER.....Day 3

With the major Japanese airbases at Amboina and Maloelap bombed into oblivion and because of the change in Japanese High Command 2 weeks ago, the new Japanese Commander has requested a truce so that he can reorganize the battered air groups. Allied High Command curtailed 90% of air operations yesterday and will be grounding all aircraft today to allow the Japanese a chance to re-deploy their air. Airbases at Amboina and Maloelap will be given 13 days to rebuild and reallocate their air groups. With most Allied air grounded yesterday the Japanese still lost 57 AC vs 6 Allied AC. Running total now for Operation Rolling Thunder is 596 Japanese AC to 153 Allied AC. Operation Rolling Thunder to resume on 2-5-43 weather permitting.

CHINA COMMAND:

IJA again infiltrates troops to 46,36 in an attempt to isolate Changsha and the Chinese counterattack with 4 Corps vs 8,000 IJA forcing them to retreat.

USAAF: OPERATION ROLLING THUNDER......Day 5

With all Allied AC grounded yesterday to allow the Japanese commander a chance to reorganize, the air offensive resumed in earnest today. Amboina and Maloelap lay in ruins so air targeting was switched to Kendari and Kwajalein. 213 Japanese AC are destroyed at a cost of 30 Allied AC. Running total for the 5 day air offensive is now 809 Japanese AC vs 183 Allied AC. With the back of Japanese air power now broken in both the Marshalls and Banda Sea, the amphibious offensives can resume.

This forum thread should remain permanently on the headlines page of Matrix games as THE standard for PBEM war gaming and updates. Some other forums playing this game are sooo inactive you dont think a game is in progress.

Adm Spruance with your detailed reports and constant updates you rock. freeboy, good luck in your campaign, its going to be 1944 soon..

A pity these PBEM games don't allow observers to watch the action after the Allies and Nips have moved, it would be a great show, better than most contemporary "brainless" movies anyway.

SITUATION REPORT: 2-6-43

SOUTH PACIFIC COMMAND: MARSHALLS CAMPAIGN

After pounding Maloelap and Kwajalein into rubble, the USN sent CV, Bombardment, MSW and Amphibious TFs on an invasion of Eniwetok. CVs launched 168 SBDs and 60 TBFs to start working over the port facilities and the coastal guns of Eniwetok prior to the ground assault.

SWPAC COMMAND: BANDA SEA CAMPAIGN: INVASION of BABO

With Amboina and Kendari suppressed, the US Army sent amphibious forces to invade Babo(NW New Guinea) this morning. Supported by MacArthurs Navy and some British CVs, the 31st RCT lead the assault onshore.

Meanwhile , the tactical, medium and heavy bombers on Kai and Aru Islands and Darwin break off their bombardment of Kendari as other targets of opportunity arrive....a huge transport fleet off the coast of NG at Sansopar. At least 17 IJN transports and escorts are damaged and 3 quickly sink.

USAAF: OPERATION ROLLING THUNDER

This operation is basically coming to an end as the 4 major airfields at Kendari, Amboina, Kwajalein and Maloelap have been neutralized and Allied bombers are now starting to seek out naval targets. However, 105 B-25s from Mili still pound Kwajalein while B-25s from Koepang and 60 heavies from Darwin continue to suppress Kendari. Another 114 Japanese AC are destroyed vs 12 Allied AC. The final running total for Operation Rolling Thunder was 923 destroyed Japanese AC vs 195 Allied AC.

CHINA COMMAND:

Nothing much happening except bombardment attacks at Wuchow and Changsha.

SITUATION REPORT: 2-7-43

SOUTH PACIFIC COMMAND: MARSHALLS CAMPAIGN

US CV TFs continue to pound defenses at Eniwetok and are joined in their bombardment by 45 B-17s from Wake Is. 107 B-17s from Tarawa continue to bomb Kwajalein killing a few A6M3as and Bettys in the process.

SWPAC COMMAND: BANDA SEA CAMPAIGN

2 weeks ago a Japanese bombardment force led by BB Hiei and BB Kirishima snuck into Kai Is. undetected and blasted an Allied transport TF killing 4 DDs. They then escaped unmolested under the nose of 600+ land based AC. Today, the same bombardment TF attempted a daylight bombardment of Kai Is. under the nose of 750+ land based AC. The results were predictable.

From Kai Is., 80+ Beaufort V-IXs, 33 Vengeance I, 25 Swordfish, and 17 B-26s landed 7 bomb and 5 torpedo hits on BB Hiei with another 3 bomb and 5 torpedo hits on BB Kirishima. 2 torpedos were also put into DD Akiguma. A British CV TF retiring to Darwin after supporting the assault on Babo also got into the attack with 25 Swordfish hitting CA Nachi with a torpedo.

In an afternoon attack from Kai Is., 47 Beaufort V-IX, 25 Vengeance I, 21 Swordfish, and 16 B-26s hit CA Nachi with 2 torpedoes, CA Chokai with 2 bombs and 2 torpedoes, and CA Myoko with 2 torpedoes. The British CV TF again launched its Swordfish and put 2 torpedoes into CA Chikuma and single torpedoes into CA Nachi and CA Chokai. The coup de grace was placed by 90+ Darwin based B-17s, B-24s, and B-26s scoring 5 bomb hits on CA Nachi, 4 bomb hits CA Chikuma, 3 bomb hits CA Chokai, and 1 bomb on CA Haguro. BB Hiei, BB Kirishima, CA Myoko, and DD Akiguma sink right away. The remnants of the bombardment TF then engage Allied pickets off Kai Is. destroying 2 MSWs and a PG.

50+ Beaufighter Mk 21s based at Aru Is. attack the transports at Sansopar landing 11 hits on AK/APs in the AM and 5 hits on AK/APs in the PM. 7 B-26s from Kai Is. bomb the transports at Sansapor landing 5 hits on the AK/APs. 40+ B-25s from Koepang work over airfield at Kendari killing some Jakes, Vals, Bettys, and Topsys.

The US Army 31st RCT attacked IJA paratroopers defending Babo and and defeated them capturing the air/naval bases in the process.

In other news, SS Harder and SS Pompom torpedo an APD and PC off the coast of Japan and 3 more transports sink at Sansapor.

This was probably the worst week ever seen by Japan. And this is only in January 1943....
