Oil shortage penalty

Post by Yogi Yohan »

Apparently, when oil income drop below 100, troops fight at 1/3 strenght. IMHO this is a to severe penalty by far. It would be more realistic to stronlgy reduce the maximum number of OP points the HQs recieve instead.

In this way, a few units with fuel would be able to fight as normal but many would be immobilised by lack of fuel. It would generally hit armour harder than infantry since armoured forces need more OPs to operate and do special resupply.

Wow that penalty is way too severe. I didn't realise all those bicycle mounted, panzerschreke armed, volksturmers suffered so badly from not having gas for their vagons.

I thought that there was only a percentage chance that you were penalised at battle time, with the percentage being equal to the amount you were below 100 (eg oil of 92 meant 8% chance of penalised strength) any chance?

It seems that my post confused some of people. I had actualy said that I've seen my troops figting at 1/3 strength and my oil resources were low. But I did not mean that they were slightly below 100. Germany had 30-50 in oil reserve by that time because I completely ignored strat. bombings.

I see, so the drop in readiness is dynamic? At oil income 95, your readiness is 95% of normal. This would be far more reasonable...

I am not sure because I did not make pure experiment.

Would it be possible only to affect motorized units?

Hey Frank,

The shortage would affect all units indirectly. The fuel shortage would cripple a big portion of the German supply system too. Germany relied on a lot of mule/horse transport, but not enough to make their military supply system immune to a fuel shortage.
