Long Campaign question.

SPWaW is a tactical squad-level World War II game on single platoon or up to an entire battalion through Europe and the Pacific (1939 to 1945).

Long Campaign question.

Post by Poopyhead »

In three previous "defend" battles against the AI Russians, the AI attacked with 6 Rifle companies, 6 Engineer companies, over 100 AFV's and 6 batteries of 76.2 mm FH. Over the weekend, I again faced the AI Russians in a "defend" battle, but the AI only had 1 Rifle and 1 Engineer companies, with 1 battery in support and 3 ZIS 30's! I play AI +200 and Hardx2. Is it normal for the AI to "wuss" out? In a much older version of SP's this happened to me and the campaign was no longer playable. Is there something that I can do?
In my next battle, things are back to normal, so I guess this glitch corrected itself.
Astrologers believe that your future is determined on the day that you are born.
Warriors know that your future is determined on the day that your enemy dies.

I've had a few campaigns get corrupted by the start lines not showing on the initial deployment screen. This forced me to delete the steel.prf and start from scratch. In the "bad old days" of pre-8.0, I used to see the AI deploying on the far edge of the map, which was caused by faulty selection routines. Later incarnations largely corrected this, but anomalies unfortunately still occur once in a while.

I think in Long Campaign the size of the enemy force is based on the Battle points at Preferences that is set on the game options. Not the one at the start of the Campaign but the one at the start of each scenario. So if you are playing a Long Campaign and playing battles. in the same game instalation. before the end of any scenario in the Campaign set the Battle points you want to the enemy for the next scenario in the campaign.

Michael Wood's upcoming mech.exe update should address some of the weird issues sometimes encountered when playing the "Long WWII Campaign".

As a long campaign fan, I'm very happy about this development. [:)]

You weren't playing with rarity "ON" were you?

The AI selection routines were revamped for 8.3, but rarity "ON" vs the AI sometimes produces odd results. Turn rarity "OFF".

Personal note: the "rarity" feature never worked as intended, so I recommend ALWAYS having it turned "OFF". The default level for purchases should be "True Troop ON, Rarity OFF", IMHO. This makes elite units cost more, and "scrubs" cost less.
