Squad Assault: West Front

Post by camz »

saw this game sitting on a shelf in my local game shop, read the review on this site which states there are some annoying bugs at the time of the release. seeing it is now patched up to version 1.80, anyone played it and would you recommend me buying the game now?

IMO, if you can pick it up at a decent price (it's a little long in the tooth), go for it.

The 1.8 patch has fixed a lot of stuff, but there's still annoying things with the game.

Tank path finding, while much better, still has them sometimes driving like they are drunk.

The camera controls can be flakey.

And it's tough to find an online opponent.

But, it's overall pretty good, and there's some good mods and aditional maps available.

You might want to ask on the Freedom Games board (they left Matrix some time ago). You'll find links to mod sites and such there, too.

I'm more likely to be found playing Squad Battles these days, but EYSA is still an excellent game, IMHO... and although there certainly were (and to some extent still are) pathfinding problems they never affected gameplay anywhere near as much as some seem to think.

The game is still being supported by freedom games and there is another patch in the works.
