Has anybody figured out how to make a TF arrive as a reinforcement?

Post by Feinder »

I'm working on my Midway scenario. Have the ships in place, with the proper delays. I even created a few custom classes (as they were listed in the OB), such as a few Coast Guard cutters and even an armed yacht (*chuckle*).

I've got the IJN fleet units arriving at port, the day they historically left port (so as not to make a massive fleet just just quash everybody).

What I'd -really- like to do is, have those ships arrive in TFs (at their origination port). Frankly players can use move ships around all they like. But if they want, I can save the the trouble, and group them as they were historically. It also makes for an interesting "teaching tool", because players will (potentially) be able to see how TFs were -really- set up in WW2 (instead of the mega-monsters that we often see).

*** What I did...

I assigned Junyo and Ryujo to a TFwith a delay of 05-26-1942. I then created a TF in the locations table (#3510), set at the postion of Ominato (where they historically launched from). Set destination to Attu (where they were headed). Scenario loaded fine (the weren't present on day 1). But when I advanced the turn, they appeared in Kure. I can get them to appear in Ominato at the right time (D+1), but I want the to appear in Ominato as a TF. Any way to do that?

I don't know if you can.
I don't think TFs can really have a delay. They (as in the database) only represent a grouping of ships at the start of the scenario.

A TF is a location, it exists or it doesn't. No ability to have it delayed.

My guess is one would have to add "entry bases" for individual ships a set arrival at the entry port for a certain turn for all ships in the TF you want to have arrive. The turn following their arrival, form the TF.

Yep, I was figuring it wouldn't work.

It's all-right.

Was planning to have it start on 05-25, when KB left Kure. But I'll just have it start on the 28th, put KB 3 days out. And organize the invastion TFs at start (in Kure) on the 28th.

No biggie.

Coming along quite well, actually. Was running some "time to target" and "just how much crap at Midway can KB blow up in one strike?" tests last night. I should have something ready in about 2 weeks.
