Supply questions - The Smolensk example

I think this game should be as realistic as possible and that it why its angers me to that you cant follow the historical speed that was shown by army group center. For example Minsk cant be captured the first week due to plotting-restrictions. Of course this is not a problem because you take the city starting week 2 but what really annoys me is Smolensk.

As you all know Smolensk was reached by Guderian on july 16, 1941. In the game its vital to revive this achievement or else you will be facing all to strong resistance further ahead.

But what happens....at best you capture Mogilev and reaches the end of the pripet-marsches before your panzers run out of supplies. This is one of the thing that sometimes make me hate this game.

Can somebody explain to me why I run out of supply. What can I do diffrent - special supply just doesnt cut it and the rail seems never to be built. How can I keep my panzer-corps moving and has anyone ever captured Smolensk on the historic date/week???
