PBEM Aztez vs Blackvoid (Guadacanal scenario)

Post by aztez »

This is my 1st PBEM so I guess anything is possible.. Either I'll get slaughtered or I can give Blackvoid some hard time.. that remains to be seen.

We decieded to have the following setup:

Aztez = Allied
BlackVoid = IJN

- 2 day turns
- sub doctrine: free choice by each player, I would
like to have it ON for IJN.
- Allied dmg control ON
- Advanced weather ON
- Set all facilities to expand OFF
- Automatic upgrade for air units OFF
- Reinforcements: +-15 days for both sides

House rules:

- Cutting off retreat only with full units that have
an assault strength of at least 40 (unless enemy is
smaller than this)
- No PT boats on the open sea (reacting out a few
hexes is OK, but they cannot patrol with larger ships
on the ocean)
- Allied carriers can only use F4F Wildcat fighters
(no Corsair)
- IJN carriers can only use Zero fighters (no Tony)

I'm not too cautious type of player so you should see a lot of action in this AAR.

I do not know if that is the right approach with this Guadacanal scenario but I'll do my utterly best to cause IJN as much damage as I can.

We have just begun so there isn't yet too much action:

I'm not going to give too much details out what my "major" plans are just yet because BlackVoid would get nasty and punish me for those actions (if he´s reading this...)

All I can say at this moment that a lot of ships have sailed and are reaching their destinations as we speak [8D]

If we agree that BlackVoid wohn't read this AAR than I can give much detailed information how I'll approach this scenario.. and thus I would be grateful for any suggestions/ideas that others may have [:)]

The first step of the Guadacanal operations has started.

TF A has started to unload over the beaches at Lunga. It should not take long before Allied have captured the island. Heavy casualties were inflicted during amphibitous part but those can be tolerated.

IJN propaganda has stated that they are short of planes.. well, I do not know whether trust that information.

Hi All,

Better to keep to 1 AAR, so neither of us is playing against the forum. [:-]
Well, I took a chance and attacked the Guadalcanal landings which resulted in a major air
defeat.

A6M2 Zero x 19
G4M1 Betty x 27

Allied aircraft
F4F-4 Wildcat x 67

Japanese aircraft losses

G4M1 Betty: 48 destroyed, 12 damaged

Allied aircraft losses

Allied Ships
BB North Carolina
CV Enterprise

Aircraft Attacking:
1 x G4M1 Betty launching torpedoes at 200 feet
3 x G4M1 Betty launching torpedoes at 200 feet

Actual losses are lower, but still pretty severe.

Grotius: Thanx. Personally, I'll try to give IJN as hard times as I can.

BV: Yep, I agree that it's better to keep this AAR in one place

Otherwise, the campaign is going well.. IJN tried to oppose the Lunga landings and my aircrews got some experience that they will need in the future. There are going to be more landings soon.. and so far those ships have been undetected [;)]

Anyway, here is the Combat Report for past few days:

Quiet turn, allied CVs are heading west from Guadalcanal, I suspect an invasion force is also there. Maybe Good enough Island? Allies landed at Tulagi and at Tassafaronga too.
Strangely Aztec does not attack at Guadalcanal.

Trying different strategy this turn, we'll se how it goes.

Aztec: I suggest not posting all combat reports, only the highlights.

Yep, quiet turn indeed. Few naval bombardments but nothing major in the past few days. That doesn't mean that there isn't anything major going [:D] ..Actually, everything is working as planned so far [:)] ..I'm looking forward to kick IJN out of the Rabaul for good [:D]

IJN strikes back. Alltogether 4 allied ships go to Davy Jones' locker: 1 AK, 1 AP, 1 APD, cannot remember 4th ship. Those Betties I lost a few turns earlier will hurt me for a long time. A convoy arrives at PM, probably bringing reinforcements+supply.

IJN airforce sunk few allied naval ships during the last turns [:(] So, that can be confirmed. Unfornately my CV Lexington has been ordered elsewhere to join in operation Beta.. All and all those loses were unfortunate but expected [:)]

The operation Alpha has been almost completed.. and the operation Beta has been put in preparation and will commence soon [:)] I guess the target of that invasion is pretty obvious but allied troops and commanders are confident non the less [:)]

IJN intel has been somewhat reliable so not much to add to the AAR.. Only thing I can promise is that things will heat up [;)]

IJN resigns, because of major gameplay issue.

I lost half my naval bomber force in the last turn. I received 3 Betty reinforcement squadrons, they arrived at Truk mid-turn. As they default to Naval attack/Airfield attack they launched a nice unescorted extended range strike at PM and got slaughtered.

THIS MAKES SMALLER SCENARIOS WITH MULTIPLE DAY TURNS UNPLAYABLE! [:@]

Sorry for shouting, but I am quite upset to end a game like this. [:(]

I must congratulate Aztec on the win.

Actually he already slaughtered half my naval bomber force a few turns earlier in a fair fight. With 60+ Betties lost, no way I have a chance. Too bad, that a technical issue ended an otherwise exciting game.

Unfortunately this game was forfeited by BV.

There were some problems with Betty's that flew unescorted.. I was suggested that we would change to 1 day turns and start all over. Well, I would like finish games/scenarios so that wasn't a good idea.

Anyway, sorry about this one.
