Salute, Einsamer Wolf. Your nickname suggests that you are german? If not, tell it, and
i will try this in english:

Hi!

Have you checked how your in-game preferences are? If you have all animation time what is possible (200millisecond, then it is slow to head to head. Other thing is then the size of your game, -I'll suggest that you start with little battles, 400-800 points and little map to familiarise yourselves to events at H2H-game.

Other thing then is that what is speed of your schools net, or do you have machines in same room, cable. Null-cable is fast enough to play spwaw head to head, but do that in home [;)]

Spwaw requier a lot from memory, CPU, and time, to get it roll fast, it might be slow even if you have net via ADSL..

yes..you can play over LAN...just have your opponent put in your IP # you get when you go into online play...then just go into battle,..or scen ,or whichever you wish...
this is the way my friends and I play every Sun. night..it is a blast...
Just make sure your firewall is off...or will allow the program to go through.
take care,

Huffy: Don't be so down: If I remember it right: You'll must write IP-address when starting H2H game in Local Area Network[:D]. So your advice is quite correct.[;)]

My advice, too. You have to compare the numbers from your system-information with
the number the Multi-Player screen shows. And you have to change it (in the game), if necessary. Then it should work.

Greetings!

You are correct. Once you have the correct address, you should be able to communicate between computers even in this situation. Its speed would be limited by the speed of the computer, don't you think?

In terms of performance, speed can be limited by settings, computer performance, and network.

The original post was to overcome network performance. Although you would like to think today's networks would be so much faster than those present during SP:WaW's release that it would run smoothly, SP:WaW is actually one big sloppy beast. It takes quite a lot of bandwidth to transfer the information (between turns) and I've seen slowdown if everyone isn't on cable.

Settings can also be a problem. Generally you want to cut off all delays. If one computer is showing all the combat messages then it will look very slow to his / her opponents (not 100% sure on this one).

Computer problems can be an issue too, although I think it is the least of all of these. I have played with someone who hadn't restarted and they slowed down the rest of us. Generally if you can play solo with no problem (arty screen scrolls really fast when plotting) you can play net with no problem.

Playing on a local network is no different in the game's eyes than playing across the internet. It still uses TCP/IP and still relies on an IP address to establish connection. The game has no features to assist in setting up an online game (such as a 'waiting room' or 'gaming lobby' that other games might have.

Know that when you are behind a router / cable modem / DSL modem / firewall your computer will have one IP address (private address) and it will also have a public address (the one this website sends its information to when you read the forum). The game can only recognize your local address (same as public address if on dial-up).

Go to www.whatismyip.com to find out your public address. Go to Windows start menu, run, then cmd (windows xp) or command (windows 98) to pull up the dos command prompt, then type ipconfig to bring up all your IP address information. SP:WaW will display your local address on the Online game screen.

See my faq over the depot if you are having trouble with a firewall:
