A simple question....

In the ground combat "animation" there are numbers next to each units icon. What do they mean?

Example: 56th Mixed Bgd:87

Thanks

I think (not 100%) that this is the units assault value.

I'm almost sure too.
And the changes reflect the effect of enemy attacks and bombing.

Correct, they are the *effective* assault values, you will see the numbers change as the combat runs and the effects for the various modifiers are felt.

Actually I'm pretty sure this isn't the assault value. For example, I recently concluded 6 weeks' fighting in Manila with 25 attacking LCUs vs 34 defending; the total of all my units' basic assault value was usually in the range of 1000-1500, with the adjusted value ranging from 800-3000; if I had gone through and added up all the numbers on the ground combat "animation", that total would have been in the 5000-7500 range. I think these numbers represent the units' fire combat values. You'll notice that the second time through, the values for many of the LCUs increase significantly. I believe that the lower value is the units' fire value for bombardment, while the higher one is its direct fire value (used only by units that are assaulting or being assaulted).

As always, I could be wrong; this is based solely on observation and not on any special insight into the mechanics.

Don't forget all them tasty modifiers, you can pretty much triple the basic value through use of prep, hq, leader, etc

So Frag: do you know what those numbers in the ground combat "animation" are? And please, don't just say:
yes[:D]

Edit: oops, never mind, missed your earlier post.

Frag,

How about these modified numbers show up on some report (like the combat report). If they show up during the combat reply, both sides can see'em (if you watch this, which I don't). I should however, have access to this elsewhere. Pretty please ...[&o]

In the big combats that I have been watching, neither my raw assault value nor my final assault value have been anywhere near as much as the total of all of the values that appear on the screen. The adjusted assault value usually has been about 20% of the total.

Just a simple shock attack will double them with nothing else going on.
