Soviets Attack Axis in 1942 Scenario

Post by RickyB »

I have spent the last few weeks creating a new scenario with the Soviets poised to attack the Axis in 1942. I have tried to balance it to provide both sides some good opportunities. So far, I have just tested it AI to AI, and it may be too balanced overall as the front lines did not move more than 5 hexes either direction through the end of the war, but then the AI is notoriously bad on the attack.

I improved the Soviet experience and readiness, while reducing the Axis readiness, and removing quite a bit of the Axis strength to be reinforcements. I also added Cairo and Madrid to the Axis side (invisible cities on the west edge of the map, and reduced the Soviet population points. The Axis gets Tigers at the start and Panthers soon thereafter.

Does anybody want to try a game of it? Let me know and which side you want, and I will play somebody. I can play a turn a day pretty consistently and would prefer someone else who will also. If anybody wants to look at it, I can also e-mail it out.

Let me know.

I would love to take a look at it, send it my way and if you are still looking for some action do let me know. I have never done a PBEM but would love to try. By the way please pass on to all involved that this is a great game no matter who was putting it down. Saw some previous postings and stood there slack jawed as I read that guys rants and raves of a 100% free game. Anyway good job guys.

I'll have a crack at it.......

You better watch out,
There may be dogs about
I've looked over Iraq, and i have seen
Things are not what they seem.

When i first read this i must have assumed that you had modified a '42 campaign. Your scenerio starts on the '41 start line?. If this is so could you post the scenerio as a zipped attach to me at

nemesis@northnet.com.au

as i would be very interested to look at it in relation to the scenerio im doing in the 'No Barb' post.

Also, the way you use the Wir editor to make valid pbem games from modified scenerios. Can i do the same with saved games(in progress)?

Thanks, Nick

Hey Nick,

Yeah, I realized I wasn't too clear about the scenario after I posted this. It is a what if based on the Axis taking out North Africa, Spain entering on their side, etc. Meanwhile, the Soviets waited and attacked in 1942. I have sent it off to you.

On the scenarios and saved games made usable for PBEM, I am not sure about the save games. I will take a look, but since I don't remember anymore exactly what I did to get the scenario to play, it will take some work. I will let you know as soon as I figure it out, if it is possible.

It does allow the strategies you mentioned on the other thread to be carried out, especially a strike from Lvov and Bialystok toward Warsaw, and a strike to isolate part of East Prussia.

Rick,
As I said I am very interested in that once you get it up and running. It is an intriguing scenario which with the other rail map (allowing an easier attack on Ploesti) could work even better.
It was I who posted the information about the attack out of Lvov and the attempt to cut of Prussia (Zhukov's May 1941 plan) - if you me to run up a map of the disposition of Soviet forces in July 1941 according to the Zhukov plan (equally equivalent to 1942) which are quite similar to Wir but with more strength I would gladly and quickly do it. It would allow a tremendoes initial strike.
When you have it up and running I would gladly play it with you.

Sorry Matt, I am getting everyone's contributions mixed up. My dispositions for this scenario were totally random, based on where I would try to assign the stronger tank units. It would be great to see the Zhukov plan dispositions - I could probably tweak things quickly to make an approximate match. Besides the map, another possibly good addition for this scenario is using Ed's wirhack version that disables the front checks and other things, giving the Axis a better chance of surviving the reverse blitzkrieg set up in this scenario.

Yes, WiRhack is good thing to play with(thanx Ed!). It allows to simulate situation where Germany had wiped off Great Britain both in Afrika and metropoly. So, just remove LndLease "factories" and oil. Weaken German aircraft and other units. Give them more manpower. Decrease Soviet manpower. etc.

I recieved the files, thanks. Looking at it now. Your set up seems very 'natural' and i assume you spent a lot of time making this so.
I will include your features into what i'm doing in hope of making my effort more (alternately) historical. If you want to play your scenerio PBEM just tell me. I seem to do well as Soviets but then have only played one german game (43) which is big trauma cause i held line to long and get this, allies invaded normandy in 43 on same turn sicily collapsed. Oh well, these things are meant to strengthen us.

Thanks, Nick,

I would love to play you, but I have a game already going, plus testing the latest version from Arnaud, and playing some of the Panzer Campaigns series HTH. Once I finish something, I will be ready for another with someone. Stay in touch on it.

Feel free to use anything from my scenario that you would like. Using Ed's wirhack, the Axis is a little too strong early on compared to what I was trying for, but it may still play out okay.
