OK I followed the strategy options per the polls and so far so good. Here are the results of the initial Barbarossa battles:
Here is eastern Poland. Note that the area in which the combat is taking place is tinted red in the background. Our Airforce damaged a Ger Fighter, and got one of those dasterdly 88s.
We used the forward area for research and did not waste any effort defeding them, per the strategy to create a balanced ary 3 areas back and in Leningrad
Despite being cut off and unable to retreat - thus destroyed and presummed captured - and faced by a HUGE force of over 20 units, Another Panzerkorps is sent to be refit!
Hold onto your courage Comrades we will come to liberate you!!
Hmm, the enemy isn't far from Leningrad or Moscow. I may have already asked this, but I forget the answer: Are there any conditions under which we might be conquered and eliminated from the game? E.g., seizure of those two cities plus Stalingrad?
The Allied Major powers never surrender. THe goal for Germany is to capture all their factories so they can make no more units. Another Ally can liberate them and get them back in the game. This is tough to do in Russia, unless an offensive through Turkey is successful. You could do it from teh Pacific across siberia, but that would be REALLYtough and likely only in a "no time limit game".
So if the Germans occupy all those eastern territories, they are basically out of the game until liberated (if that ever happens). THE more they have the weaker the Soviets ability to resist becomes, and the Germans can get production out of them (but not as effectively).
Oh, the other thing is you can move factories around, but it takes almost all a regions rail to do and the factory becomes damaged in the process requiring resources to fix. IF you rail a factory out, you can't bring much of anything in.
You can't do that (or move much of anything) - until the Germans invade or Sp43.
So were you planning on actually moving any of the factories?
Kiev, Kharkov, and Belorussia are gone already.
(I assume you can't move a damaged factory, or else you could take Kharkov back
and then repair the rail and send the factory back to the urals.)
It looks like Leningrad is the under the most immediate threat with 15 enemy
units adjacent to it. But if you move it, you won't be able to build there
or ship any additional troops there. I guess you would only move it if you planned
on abandoning that position.
THe "frontline" factories are gone gone no matter what since they can be occupied on the first turn of teh German invasion. Eastern Russian areas are "frozen" until the invasion (or SP 43). IF things realy go to hell I would try to salvage at least one from Moscow, Gorki and maybe Stalingrad depending on how much rail capacity, and where i could put them. at least make the Germans advance to Siberia to take my last few of them out.
Looks like we may have a set of winners shaping up.
Surrender territory in front fo Moscow and counterattack the perceived weakness in the South.
Research for tank improvements and build up inf and arty the rest of the year.
You still have time to swing the vote with a couple votes in some cases. At 8pm tonight I will move ahead and play through 41 and post the results and a new set of options for the Winter Counter-offensive.
