Newbie - 4 Easy Questions/Suggestions

Post by ScooterDog »

After reading the forum threads:

1. Suggest a button at the top of the screen to access the coastwatcher and aircraft sightings reports anytime during the following Orders Phases.

2. I had a TF with two CVs and one was badly damaged. Can I move aircraft from the damanged CV to the undamaged CV in any port after I have disbanded the TF, recognizing that I am limited to 5 squadrons per CV?

3. As the Allies, I got a message "TF 38 Must Unload". I don't have a TF38. Is this referring to a Japanese TF?

4. Are there any reansonable estimates of the repair times for a badly damaged CV at Brisbane, Nourmea or Pearl, so I can decide on the best course of action?

Thanks [&o]

Don´´t know what you´re talking about. Just give me a few details. I´m curious.

2. I had a TF with two CVs and one was badly damaged. Can I move aircraft from the damanged CV to the undamaged CV in any port after I have disbanded the TF, recognizing that I am limited to 5 squadrons per CV?

You don´t need to disband the TF to move aircraft. You can do it at sea. Unless the CV is badly damaged (more than 50 sys. and float. damage). Then you have to do it in a port. (whatever).

3. As the Allies, I got a message "TF 38 Must Unload". I don't have a TF38. Is this referring to a Japanese TF?

Surely, if some cases the TF must unload (don´t know exactly when). And it seems to me that it was the Jap. side which got the TF 38.

4. Are there any reansonable estimates of the repair times for a badly damaged CV at Brisbane, Nourmea or Pearl, so I can decide on the best course of action?

General rule for me:

Capital ships: More than 20 sys damage--- send it to PH
Destroyes, AV, etc: more than 30 sys damage---send them to PH
AKs, APs, etc: send them to PH always, unless they are quite needed.

Size 9 ports are the best ones to repair. So use Noumea, Brisbane or Luganville (if it is size 9) to repair your ships.

But this is a general rule. Sometimes you may want to keep a 25 sys. damage CV in the the South Pacific because it can still operate and if you send it to PH, it may not come back!

1. Unless, I missed something fundamental, the coastwatcher and aircraft
reports (v2.40) only pop on the screen for a couple of seconds and then are
gone. I want to be able to re-read the reports during the Orders Phase to
see what is moving and where versus trying to remember what it said.

2. Sub put two torpedoes into the Yorktown. Got Sys and Flt above 50 with
fire. I'll go to port.

3. Still somewhat a mystery.

4. Thanks. Time to send the Yorktown to Pearl. Because the game is very
logical, I would assume I must stabilize it first.

Thanks for your help.

Unfortunately in UV, the sighting reports are not stored anywhere. The only shot you have to see them is in the replay. In WiTP, they are written to a text file you can look at, but that probably won't be retrofitted to UV.

Thanks for your help.

There is one other option which I have been doing - increase the message delay and write down the important sightings. Unfortunately, while waiting for the "wheat" of information, I have to sit through the "chaff". Kinda like watching paint dry.[;)]

In response to #4. A carrier operating with 20 sys damages is at a severe handicap vs a carrier operating with less than say 10. It is a question of need as to when to send them home. If you are really threatened by the enemy, (auto victory) then the carrier should stay. Otherwise, send it home. It will repair in the same time plus get a wealth of new equipment. (better radar and AA guns). Don't worry about not getting carriers back, if your release level is at "moderate" or higher, you will get the carriers back fairly soon after they are repaired. The computer seems to favor sending carriers back first. If your release level is on "Low" Then slowly start to cull your in-theater ships to send some of them back to Pearl. Do so one at a time and check your release level after you click any ship home as you level can change back to "moderate" at any time. Send slow AVs, surplus tankers and AOs first, then DDs with very low AA factors, If I have a lot of them, I will send cruisers back as well, as the ones in-theater at the start of the game have very poor AA armament. Don't worry, if you are at a "low" release level, you have more ships than you need. You should be able to send some home.
