Elite divisions, game

Post by jager506 »

Hi

Just wondering if the guidelines on keeping elite SS divisions in the West and Italian Front in the old WIR manual still apply in v3.0. Is it sufficient if the Axis strength figure on these fronts is say about 15-20% higher than the Allied using infantry and other mobile units? The Axis forces in Afrika also tend to surrender once in awhile in 1941, even though all I do is switch a few air units around.

Also, I'd like to try my strategic defense skills in a PBEM game playing the German side in the 1943 campaign. Anyone game?

Cheers
Mark

Yes, the rule is a minimum number of panzer divisions, where SS divisions count as two panzers. Look in manual on the last page before the credits. Due to limited space in the Western Front HQ, you really have to use SS units because of space restrictions.

Generally speaking you need to keep a force that outnumbers the Allied force in the Front by at least 500 in strength points for the Italian front and 1000 by the Western front in clear weather. These are necessary because your leaders will sometimes fail a check on that front. Normally when they pass that check they add +500/+1000 to the Axis strength.

However I've noticed something different that means Arnaud has changed something about the Italian Front strength calculations. I'll get back to you, if Rick doesn't.

This occurs only one time, the first event on the Italian Front is the surrender of the Afrika Korps. All other events lead only to the shattering of units not their destruction and removal.

, even though all I do is switch a few air units around.

Lots of folks do that, its okay, just watch the Allied strength, and be ready at the end of a year to send new forces if necessary to the fronts since the formulas for the fronts is based on the year, so Allied strength rises the first turn of every January.
