BlackSea rail line

Post by Lokioftheaesir »

Hi all

My father was born in Cluj in Romania and he says there was a rail line from Bucharest to Odessa that did'nt wander more than 100KM from the coast of the black sea. He's a bit forgetfull but this sounds right. Any suggestions?

Nick, aka Loki

PS. He told me a funny story of when the allies bombed Ploesti. Everyone in his town ran away and it took them 3 days to walk home. Thats how scary the sight of hundreds of bombers were to them.

Hi Loki! I've found this railroad on several maps. Biy I had only USSR maps. So, it did go directly from Bucharest? I had put railroad from ROmania to Odessa on my alternative map and now this change is being discussed with current map creator (Bill). Please Loki, if you have any additional information on this railroad - post it in thisd thread. I'd like to know its transition capacity(ie how many tracks did it have) and whether did tit go directly to Odessa or may be through Kishinev. Thanx very much!

Hi Mist

I rang him up and he says the line could have sprouted from the line that runs to Lvov, he does not know if it went through Kishenev. The information he has was passed on to him second and third hand (gossip) 60 years ago when he was a teenager so thats as good as you'll get.
