A Late Review

Post by JosephL »

Gamesurge has published a somewhat late review of Starshatter.

Scoring a good 68%, here was the conclusion:

"Overall Starshatter provides an interesting addition to an almost non-existent genre, as well as a refreshing change to the current games in the market."

decent review, but I don't know GameSurge's standards, so its hard to say how the score compares. It does sound like he couldn't get a handle on dodging missiles, though- if you're out there, turn off the engine and dump a decoy while using thrusters to dodge!

Unfortunately there are aspects of the game design that are quite frustrating. A lack of shields on a fighter means that all damage is permanent until the mission is over, and without any way to replenish the hull strength; this becomes an extremely annoying aspect of the game. Most people can imagine what it would be like to play a first person shooter and have to follow a large stretch with only limited health and no powerups.
try flying a TIE Fighter sometime.

Haha Duken! Good point [:D]

But in that game there is automatic repair thingy: system is damaged only brief period of time. So if lasers go out, they are back in action within less than minute.
You know what they say, don't you? About how us MechWarriors are the modern knights, how warfare has become civilized now that we have to abide by conventions and rules of war. Don't believe it.

That was more of a response to the "oh no! fighters without shields are worthless! All hull damage is permanent oh no!"

You should know how long a minute in a gunless TIE is.

well, from the sound of it the game was reviewed as a first person shooter in space, which it is not. that may be the only thing the reviewer is familiar with, so one can not expect a good showing when reviewers are subjective and have only one context to review from... :(
