It is a first person shooting game ?

Post by Arkady »

I just checked FAQ on official game page and I can not believe my eyes...system requirements like for a FPS game
Windows 2000, XP
- Direct X 9c
- Video: 1024x768 or higher, 32 Mb Video RAM (128 Mb Recommended)
- CPU: 800 MHz Processor (2 GHz Recommended)
- Memory: 512 Mb RAM (1 Gb Recommended)
- 8 x CD-ROM
- 500 MB free Hard Drive Space
- 16 bit Direct Sound compatible Soundcard

on the other hand CPU minimum is decent...thanks for release delay...I'm going to shop and must buy more RAM (I have only 256 MB on my desktop PC, fortunately my laptop is more powerful) [:D]

Since no one else is responding to this, I guess I'll try:

What the hell are you talking about? This is not a FPS [:'(]
You can't fight in here...this is the war room!

The games high specs stem from it being written with a 3D engine. This was used to handle all the layers on the map, I believe.

Can't really get much farther from a FPS though! [:D]

My 1.7 GHZ 512MB Toshiba laptop with a crappyr GEForce 4 GO440 32MB chugs through it just fine, as long ayou are careful not to go app swapping while its dic thrashing...In full screen mode with nothing else going on, 32MB video is just fine. The littel VCR app seems to be teh biggest resoource hog, unless you have boatload of RAM I would just hit PLAY and not mess withthe other buttons or you see strange things and can crash on closing the VCR.

I've even run it on my duaghters 667 Piii with an old Geforce 2 64MB 29 dollar special...Its slow, but harkens me back to playing SSG's Russia on my old Apple II GS...had to use "low res" graphics mode (which I think just uses more compressed map and unit icon files - I'm sure Marc S can tell us how they are different ;)

Wow, the game map must look pretty awesome to be using all that firepower. [:D]

I think 1 gig ram is quite too much for a wargame. Perhaps they were just trying to be cautious and not trick anyone into a laggy game. Or it could be some sales gimmick too, I know a lot of people now adays still judge the graphics of a game due to the recommended system specs. When making a choice between one game or another they will take the one with the highest specs. Even if this means they must upgrade!

The game runs fine with a 2GHz P4 system w/ 512 RAM (my system). That said, it's a modern 3D WinXP game, it should suprise no one that more RAM is better. 640K is enough for anyone! [:)]

The only games at present that nned 1 gig are flight sims. Anything over a Gig never gets used.

BF vietnam, Half life 2, ALL of the new MMPOG's- WoW, EQ2,AC2-, NASCAR Sim Racing, all play much smoother with 1 GB of RAM.
BF2, which is being released in june is going to need 2 GB of RAM to play with everything turned up. Thats from video interview with the lead developer. So dont kid yourself, RAM requirments are around 1 GB for most new games NOW, and will be 2 GB within a year or two. Thats if you want to play them with everything tuned on high, and want it to be smooth.

The way I look at it- Why spend over $1000 for a good gaming machine, just to skimp out of $200 or less and considerably impact its overall performance?

I have seen WoW on boxes with 256 megs sytem ram, and ones with more than a gig ram and did not notice a damn difference. I guess that is understandable as the main slowdown with morpogs are the damn servers. WoW is so overflooded and laggy I don't know why people would bother to play it even if it were free.

Add in the fact the graphics are what reminds me of games 20 years old. Morpogs are still using brush based geometry for crying out loud. Not much graphics processing needed for those, or even collision checking.

Used to play EQ, a friend of mine was still playin EQ on his Duron 700MHz machine with onboard 32MB graphics 6 months ago!!, had all effects turned off, and had to look at his feet whenever he shot his bow (he was a ranger) at an enemy...basically played via the text messages scrolling on his screen. My point is that people will find a way if they like something enough.
(I recently gave him my old GeForce 4 Ti4200, he couldn't believe the graphics and different experience after 4 years of playing by text, but I'm betting he still looks at his feet out of habit! [:D] )
