How do I play from behind a router?

Post by Commando719 »

Greetings, colleagues,
I am using SPWAW 8.3 on a network that is behind a router.
Therefore, my "local" IP address is not the same as the router's IP address.

If I wish to play someone outside my router, how do I accomplish this in SPWAW online play? (I can successfully connect with anyone on my network, BTW.)

Thank you in advance for assistance. If you prefer, my direct email is Commando719@hotmail.com.

Thank you for that information, the description of port forwarding was quite valuable. I've set the port forwarding of port 7002 to all of the computers on my local network, and set the firewall appropriately, I believe.

Now, I'm interested in testing my configuration, to determine that it works. Anyone willing to meet just to determine that this works? If so, email me at Commando719@hotmail.com. Thanks in advance!

Ok, sorry to say I need some more assistance here. I can join, but not create, an online game that works outside my router. Inside connections are working fine.

Router is Linksys BEFSR41. Port Forwarding for port 7002 is set for all computers behind the router.

OS is Win XP SP2 -- Firewall set to OFF.

Software Firewall is ZoneAlarm Free version. FYI, ZA Free does not allow one to open ports manually. Mech.exe has been set to allow incoming and outgoing communication in all zones.

Do I need to set up port triggering? If so, what OUTGOING port does SP:WAW 8.3 use? (I assume INCOMING is 7002.)

Any more help out there? Thanks in advance.
