Bmp icons for Land Units:
1. What determines which land units gets which bmp icon?
2. Any way to add to new bmp icons for land units?

My compliments to you CobraAus. Your avatar has a distraction factor almost on a par with Large_Slow_Targets' artwork.
.
.......Just one more thing. In the scenario loading screen art work you(?) submitted to Spooky a while ago...., the left bottom pic shows a scene where there are landing craft milling about and a destroyer shining a search light at the water, in the background. What is that picture.....title.......about....?

It was a while ago now but if memory serves - it was an oil painting I found on the net depicting a night rescue of a stricken destroyer in THE SLOT...Just one more thing. RE: Bmp Icons for Land Units?
Thanks for posting the big version of that. The small one does the detail no justice. Yes, those are sailors bobing up and down. The landing craft look to have the same number as the DD/APD in the background. Have never seen an APD before so don't know if that is one. Thanks again.
Really nice avatar.

The lines and hull number show her to be a converted DE - too late in the war for Guadalcanal. I think this is the ship that rescued some of the Indianapolis survivors - that is probably the subject of the painting.

The Indianapolis had been sunk by the Imperial Japanese submarine I-58 on the evening of July 30th, 1945 while returning from Tinian Island after delivering the components of the Atomic Bomb. The crew of the Indy was leftto the oil polluted and shark infested waters. Little did the survivors know it would be almost 5 days before help would arrive.

RE: Bmp Icons for Land Units?
There appears to be two rows for each nation and the relative position of the unit types is the same for each nation. The above post should give you a clue to which picture represents the unit types.
For anyone else who wants to have a go at updating the images, the file you are after is \War in the Pacific\ART\GroundUnits.bmp
Use your favorite graphics editor to paste your desired picture in the appropriate panel of the above file. Make sure you stay within the boundries of the existing picture as the locations are fixed in code!! (The individual panels are 150 by 60 pixels in size).
Feel free to experiment and see what you can come up with!!
(Maybe the rest of us could use your efforts as well!!!).
Just remember to back up the original file.

Note: Image shrunk for display...
At a guess:
INF, ARM, ART, ENG
CD, AAA, HQ, Marines
and:
USA
ANZAC
British/Indian/Dutch
Japan
China
Russia
I suspect these allocations are set in the code.
