Smoking On The Planes

Post by KG Erwin »

This is kinda OT, but notice that in "Band of Brothers", some guys were smoking on the planes. This was true, but it was only allowed as long as the jump door was kept open. It IS historically accurate.

I think those guys had other problems than health risks due to smoking. [;)]

BoB just started on german TV yesterday and I understand it is great "Hollywood entertainment"[8|]. Since I also know Pvt. Ryan, I did expect some more from Mr. Spielberg. Going to see what the reamining episodes have to offer....

What did you expect from an episode that shows the training of an airborne unit?

It was episode 1 and 2 broadcasted at the same evening.

Btw, has anybody useful info about the "battle for the gun battery" that was mentioned to be a training example in US army later?[&:]

One of the scenarios in Mega Campaign, Screaming Eagles is a historical recreation of that fight. It was one that I did after much research, including personal correspondence with Mr. Dan Malarky, one of the participants in the battle. His recollections of the battle (I still have his letter, which is a real treasure for me) presents a little different view of what took place. I won't detail it all but I based the scenario more on his comments than anything else. Nothing like a living eye-witness and participant to help with the facts!
