RE: Where and When to Get World At War
As a newbie here, GGWaW will be my first Matrix game, I couldn't disagree with you more nim8or.
Bottom line is people are arguing w the simultaneous release date, which is a decision skewed "in favor" of new recruits... Some of the "old timers" have expressed disappointment that they didn't get favored status to get the game earlier. [X(]

I own some 13 of Matrix's games, so whatever the 'old-timers' may think, I'm just as valuable to the company and the community as anyone. I may not have the time or inclination to make 1000+ posts here, but my opinion is a valuable as any other, (and it would be if I only owned one game for that matter too!)
What I'm trying to say is there is no need for people to attack 'recruits' and other people, just keep it civil without the demeaning comments for heaven's sake.

You´re absolutly right. The elitist behaviour of people that think they´re something better or more valuable just for the sheer fact they have been playing (war-)games for ages is what scares people away. I have been complaining about this for years allready. Not only on this board.
I appreciate fans and oldtimers, heck I´m one myself, but I can´t really stand elitists in this matters. They prevent fresh blood joining this community.
I have noticed this in other game genres too (flight simulations for example), but it´s more prominent in wargaming. Sadly ..

RE: Where and When to Get World At War
If you happen to be referring to me, as you quoted my post, scott_WAR and i got a good chuckle (about the post you quoted without emoticons[:-]) and i don't think he took it as anything other than what it was meant to be: a satire of this soap opera we've all been forced to watch since WAW went "gold". It is comical how everybody is so quick to jump on their soapbox and hurl accusations of Matrixs' "grand conspiracy" and how unjust it is that they don't have WAW right this minute because we "deserve" it etc..etc...ORIGINAL: nim8or
What I'm trying to say is there is no need for people to attack 'recruits' and other people, just keep it civil without the demeaning comments for heaven's sake.
Another poster:ryanw, seemed to have no problem understanding the subtle "inflections" of forum perusing & emoticons[:D]. Sure, i'd like to have WAW, but i don't deserve it because i have "x" posts and i spend too much time here on this forum instead of playing golf or throwing dollar bills at the gentlemans club[X(]. Matrix has done what is right for them and, for the philosophers among us, what will be right for us as a whole as wargamers. Many of us do get agitated by the angry noobs that come and throw rocks in our pond that was once calm and serene but, hey...it's all for the cause...right?
On that note: I'll get WAW when i'm damn good and ready, i've got better things to do with my life than worry about when, where, how much, did it ship yet etc..etc..I have always been near the front of the line for new releases from Matrix, in part because of loyalty, mostly because of quality and subject matter. In WAW's case, it might be nice to have a manual and being that Matrix has done for themselves why shouldn't I? If that means waiting for some 3rd party to get around to business...well...i'll just have to get around to ordering it as i doubt i'm gonna go running off to the mall for a "ghost" game.

Nice list here but dont try and buy it from them cus they are not carrying it.
I just finished calling the following and here is there responses.
EB games maybe next week was supposed to be today but we really dont have a shipping date.
Staples we dont carry games sorry.
Best Buy I am sorry but we are not stocking that title and I cant find it in our list to special order.
CompUSA sorry we only carry one title from Matrix Games and that is not it and we do not have any other games listed from that company so I am afraid you cant special order it.
The others are not located within 50 miles of me so I didn't call them.
What a joke!

RE: Where and When to Get World At War
Just because I didnt believe it...I called the same locations that you have quoted didnt carry or special order WaW.
Here are the responses I got....
EBgames: "It will be available to purchase on 3/28. We have multiple copies."
BestBuy: "We have ordered several copies and I beleive the the release is monday."
Staples: "It should be Monday based upon our delivery schedule. Several copies."
CompUSA: "Oh yes, I have been waiting on it too! It will be here monday"
So, Targul, not sure where you are calling, but apparently the stores where you are located must not have effective management or are simply phantasms. I even asked most of these staff members if their other stores were stocking and their consenus was - absolutely. In fact, the EBgames guy said that this was the most special orders for a strategy wargame he had seen in years.
My suggestion if your stores locally arent stocking it - direct download it in 36 hours when Matrix opens for sale......until then, bashing Matrix accomplishes nothing but making you appear ungrateful.

Just wanted to say that my local EB Games says that they will get it on saturday and my nearest Gamestop says tomorrow (friday). I know that nothing is for certain, but it might be worth calling your local stores and seeing what they say. Oh, and I am probably going for a retail version for a reason that I don't think anyone has mentioned yet: I can trade in games I don't play for it, and save a moderate amount of money. Have a good one!
Just some food for thought, some month ago when RTW was released I went to my fav gameshop and asked about it.
The clerk sayed they didn´t have the game. When I scanned the shelves for another game to buy I foudn they had RTW allready placed there, 10 copies of it (!!).
Never trust clerks is my motto since long, not that I blame it on them [;)]
I've recently found out that most software store clerks are ex-burgerking employees.

Hello all.
New to this forum but I have been "playing" computer games from the time of the original Apple II.
I have what may be a dumb question, but: I note that server time is appx 1800 hours. Does this mean that the digital download will be available in 6 hours?
Thank you all.

[8D]Mr. Heath had said around noon as they want to make sure everything is in order(digital river[8|]). So for me that could be 9:00am tommorow, if i wanted to pick one up i would have to wait until Tuesday most likely. I also have an open order via delivery....decisions, decisions

RE: Where and When to Get World At War
I am ungrateful so if that is the way it appears great.
I happen to be the customer who I feel has been badly mistreated by Matrix Games.
I am glad whoever you called told you that but the 3 EB Games I called Ontario, Montclair and Upland all told me the same thing and that was they are doing Special Order only and did not intend to stock any. But since none of them stock PC games I would expect that.
Best Buy in Montclair, CA had no idea about this game and it was not coming in.
Comp USA did not know anything about it and that is Montclair, CA.
Checked with Staples today since you mentioned them. They said they DO NOT stock war games and it was not on there list but if I really wanted a copy they would try to order one on Monday. But I am a Platinum shopper at Staples was the only reason.
As I have said this is the Los Angeles Area and no one is putting this title on the shelf.
I did not check with Game Stop since they never know anything.
You can look them up on the net and give them a call. Or simply look the game up on the net. Only EB Games actually shows it on the net the other stores do not have it listed.

andGood Grief, Sonny, you don't have any idea of what might
be in the contracts , etc between Matrix and the Retail distributors, it could well be that a target date for retail selling is in there which would also set the earliest date Matrix own store could sell, If I were a retailer i'd be sure to put in the terms that Matrix own store couldn't sell sooner then The date I and other retailers sell, if I were a retailer..
IF there are any budding new wargamers scanning these forums in hopes of discovering a new hobby/passion they will likely stay the hell away from joining this 'community' with the way people berate and demean those who differ from their own opinions. I don't see the point of putting other people down just to make your point, even if made in jest. Obviously the 'old-timers' are the only people that matter here...
To clarify Nim8or, if followed the thread, my post was on his post about why Matrix couldn't sell it sooner via DD instead of the DD being out at time of also the Retail sale date.
My point being one could not know what Matrix has in contracts,
and so Matrix selling it themselves before retailers could sell the retail box might not be allowed, I was not demeaning anyone only pointing out those ranting over Matrix not selling via DD sooner then when sold via retail don't understand that there could be legalities not allowing it.
Perhaps Matrix could but then the retailers would not be happy
and Matrix wouldn't be able to sell retail easy, so having DD sales only when Retail sales start is reasonable.
