World at War rocks!!! (teensy question though)

Post by jpinard »

After 1 minute of gameplay I have to say this game is awesome!!

Ok 2 questions though:

#1 - Is there a way to zoom in on the map?

#2 - Where's the keyboard shortcut list?

#3 - Can we have the cursor keys scroll the map?

Thanks, and sof ar my 1 minute has been awesome! [:D][:D][:D]

jpinard,

Very glad to hear you are enjoying it! Not trying to sound like a smart-ass, just faster to answer this way rather than posting screenshots or re-typing text.

Check pages 22-24 in the manual, that covers keyboard shortcuts for all the top bar buttons, including map zoom.

Regards,

- Erik

Thanks! I went DD since no one at retail had it today (sorry I couldn't wait). So I haven't read the manual. Also, can we make our own campaigns? I have a killer idea for one [;)][;)]

Making your own campaign involves editing a set of the .txt files in the DAT directory - so YES its possible, I think someone in the beta pool was looking at putting together a little "how to" - Joel posted a few hints to the beta testers:
Yes, it is very possible to create whole new scenarios and add them to the scenario list. There are a set of files that need to be created (best by copying and renaming existing scenario files).

Files needed

pipelinexx.txt
regionsxx.txt
researchxx.txt
scendatxx.txt
unitdataxx.txt

*xx is a common name added to differentiate the files for different scenarios. We used 40,41,42,43, but any number of characters can be used.

Then in the scenario.txt file you add the info about the new scenario and the text to appear on the main menu screen. In the regionsxx.txt file there is a place to reference all the other files that are unique to this scenario. Once you've done all this, you can start making changes to the txt files to make your scenario distinct. It's actually pretty easy.

That that if you change the dates outside teh current window - or make massive changes to who is on whose side the AI can go snakey. There is a lot of talk about why no "1939 scenario" - the big reason that was not doen was all the problems you need to teach the AI to deal with - partitioning poland, whether to "sitzkrieg" or not, how to keep Britain from piling a huge honkin stack in to France, keeping China from gettig attrited excessively by Japan etc etc.

For those desiring to explore a 39 scenario - it would primarily have to be for pbem only.

But its possible to do - just with some caveats...
