JG divisions are loosely called light infantry divisions, but the normal term I see is the German Jager (or Jaeger???) in most of my readings. There were relatively lightly equipped divisions designed to move more rapidly, I believe, than the standard divisions. They get a few benefits in certain terrain - I believe it is listed in the read me notes, if this is true. I know mountain divisions get benfits in mountains.

The Jager or Light like Rick states, had light weapons and only 2 regiments. Also their artillery and anti-tank guns were lighter. They were created as pursuit divisions (except the 90 and 164 Light Afrika divisions). The originals light divisions were 4 (formed in 1934-36)and fought in Poland. They proved to be unwieldy and in the winter 39-40 all four were converted into panzer units.

Jaeger means hunter in German. Ever hear of the Panzer-Jaeger Bns? The Jaeger divisions were 2/3 the strength of regular infantry divisons in 1939-1941 (6 bns of infantry instead of 9) and they were NOT motorized.

Later (1942-on) most regular German divisions in Russia were down to 6 Bns of infantry so the distinction is blurred. Later still (1944) with the Volksgrenadier divisions, and their 6 bns of Infantry, there was really not much difference any more.

The "light" divisions were motorized and were 1 tank Bn and 1 Infantry regiment, not a good composition so they were filled out to Panzer divisions in 1939-40. 5th Light and 90th Light were loosely based on the original light divisoon TO&E, but 5th light was later converted to 21st Panzer division (Rommel was pissed that he did not get an extra tank bn to go with the re-organization). I think 90th Light became a PZGD division.

Well, the exact german spelling is "Jäger". In case the letter between the J and the g is not displayed properly, it should be an "a" with two dots above. Whenever you do not have such letter you can write ae instead. It is the same with ö (oe) like in Göring and ü (ue) like in Führer.

Yep in sweden we also say Jäger. We got the letters å, ä and ö plus the usual a-z.

Hello All.
From what I've read about the Jaeger Divisions. They are supposed to be used as skirmisher Infantry in restricted terrain. i.e. fighting in woods, mountains, etc...
unfortunately, as far as I'm aware, they have no special benefits in the game. In reality, they were easy to transport, were air portable, had special combat training, and were considered to be specialist formations.
i.e Not common Infantry divisions.

"We'll give you a gun, and we'll give you a hat!"
And the pig began to whistle when they told the piggies that.

Micha forgot about ß (html code: &szlig ;) which is replaced by "ss" if not available. it#s spoken as a sharp s and used in names as Rußland (Russia), Fall Weiß (case white), Großdeutschland etc... yes the Jäger in Jägermeister has roughly the same meaning... :D
