Wingmen won't attack

Post by Huwie »

Just bought this game last night, and I'm very impressed with it. Having a blast.

Just one thing, however - my wingmen never seem to attack. I order "break and attack" and then after fighting for my life and promptly dying, I check the board afterwards and it says that my wingmen never fired a single shot, let alone killed anything.

If I order an attack on a specific target, though, they get to it right away. Any advice?

Nobody has any comments on this? It's easily reproducable:
  • Get into any fight
  • Order "break and attack"
  • Watch your wingmen fly around without firing a single shot

Ordering my element to attack my target is not a good option; they'll use up all their ordnance on one ship and besides, I shouldn't have to. Ordering just my wingman to attack my target is time-consuming and again, I shouldn't have to.

My observations are confirmed on the stats after each mission - not a single gunshot or missile fired from anyone in my element.

I'm on a borrowed computer right now (and apparently havn't checked the forum in 10+ days), but have you tried combat without the 'break and attack' order? The AI seems to notice enemies slower than a human (by a good 5k it seems to me) , so maybe waiting for the Spear 2 attacking Green 1 ect. might help too.

Hmmmm...you know what? I don't think I've actually tried. Given that we always carry missiles, the engagement range (or what I consider to be the engagement range, at least) is considerably greater than 5K.

Having said that, if they do attack of their own volition without having been given the order, that would suggest that "break and attack" actually prevents them from attacking...since I've witnessed wingmen under that order to take no action even when being blasted by the enemy at point-blank range.

Thanks for getting back to me. I'd be interested to hear your results if you get a chance to try on your own PC.

For example you notice an enemy flight 45k away from you. your wingman/men will notice them ~40k. Since I suck (and therefore use arcade&easy) it may just be how I have the game set up too.

I should be able to tomorrow.
