people (once they drag themselves away from the game) posting their game experience with some strategic depth .... I'm always looking to learn some new tips from experienced wargamers. I'd love to hear people's opening gambits etc...

Just a thought. Lol - although I don't know if I'll post anytime soon myself since I MUST spend each moment with this game.... must ... go ... to ... bed.

I don't have much to offer yet...

But with germany I generally try to take norway and all of france on the first turn.

I do this by using a my fleet to amphib norway with 1 infantry unit and use the support fire from the ships. I also use one bomber unit, I believe from the east germany territory to also support.

Then I use my infantry, artillery and 1 air unit to attack the netherlands. After winning this battle I then grab all my armored units, 7 of them, and attack france along the channel coast, 2 spaces away. Can't recall the name of the territory off the top of my head. I then use all my remaining air power to support the attack. Once this attack is won, then all of france surrenders and vichy is set up.

Then I try to park some of my airunits that can reach my fleet off of norway (usually just the bomber units) over the top of the fleet. Against the computer, this usually deters him from attacking my fleet.

After that I move all my un-moved, non-east front garrison units adjacent to yugoslavia to take that the next turn, then greece the turn after that.

I've tried using my subs to attack the single british warship just east london, but they usually don't do damage.

That´s almost the tactic I used all the time as opening turn.

Subs are great against cargos and convois. During developing I managed to sink a lot of WA transports [;)]

I hold off on Norway to send my bombers to support the attack on Paris most of the time - just sending the tanks alone I've lost 4 [X(]

With full bomber support I often lose none or just 1 at most 2.

I have noticed that the German AI has a neat turn one trick - they let a single fighter attack Yugoslavia - that unfreezes Bulgaria, Romania and Hungary - then Germany can use their forces to take Yugoslavia on turn one. :)

Well I really don't have an opening move but playing the Western Allies I buy destroyers, cargo ships, and supply and wait:) I chase down U boats when I have the advantage.
America ditto for the first few turns.

My first game I made it to 1944 but alas...the U boats had strangled me.

The U boats must be dealt with.

They like to spread out in single zones then pounce together..like a wolfpack.

Of course being AI and so precise and all...they remind me of pac man as they merrily eat up my chain of merchant ships in the sea zones.

Oh yeah..and this time I'm researching ASW:)

Oh yeah..and this time I'm researching ASW:)

Most important lesson to learn for the WA:

Max Research in ASW for destroyers from the beginning until you reach level 3.

Also doesn't hurt to research one of your air units ASW levels to at least 2. I like to do that with my fighters if I'm also going to increase their range. If I wait on the range increase I will usually upgrade the tac air units instead.

I never research WA destroyers, I just give up on them.

But I do invest max research points in LR air ASW each turn, until I get ASW 4. Then it's clobberin' time for damn Uboots.

I think LR air is much better at killing subs than DDs.

I openly admit to be among the worst players of this game in the beta team, but this ASW strategy is not something I think I am doing wrong [:D]

I research Light fleets and at least one of carrier air or heavy air to a 2 as a max priority. If around turn 3-5 I can tell that Germany is going all out on subs, I research all three of these and then keep researching one of the air units up to level 3. Anything less makes you at risk vs. the U-boats and can interfer with giving supplies to Russia. Since my goal is to stockpile supplies in Russia early on and then continue giving them 30-60 supplies a turn, I have to win the U-boat war. If I see that the German player is not putting an effort into subs, I'll back off and my strategy may lead to more ASW research points spent than needed, but I'd rather pay that price than lose the naval war. Of course, in a game where I am only playing the WA, I might not be as good about giving the Lend Lease to my Soviet partner (although I should). [:)]
